I chose other...How could you have 5 names on the list and not have Lee Smith - (2nd most saves all time) or Dennis Eckersley?

Hoffman is the career saves leader. Smith is 2nd, Rivera 3rd.

Fingers is down in 9th place.

I went with Rollie Fingers, back in his day they had to go for more than 1 inning to get the job done. And by the way we can certainly tell you're bored.

"I'm pulling a Rock_Strongo. I am posting a lot to start off my thread so people notice it. Great idea, Rock!"

That's fine, but you also called it a "great thread." Isn't that kind of like laughing at your own joke?

Anyway, I'm a Red Sox rooter and I went with Mo. The guy's been at the top of the game most of his long career and still has to be considered top 3 today -- he may be one, he may be two, he may three, it's arguable. But it wasn't arguable for much of his career. And his post-season numbers are sick.

I went with the Goose.  I know his save totals aren't gawdy like Hoffman, Lee Smith and the like, but Goose posted many 2 and 3 inning saves which you just don't see now days.  Also, the starters back then pitched more complete games and with Goose almost always pitching at least 2 innings per save, couldn't go out there 3-4 days in a row.  He had an intimidating mound presence like no other.  I also think its a complete disgrace that he had to wait for so long to get voted into the HOF.

Comparing numbers isn't going to resolve this as the save rules have changed throughout the years, so Fingers and Gossages numbers won't match up.

There are several omissions on this list, Lee Smith and Dennis Eckersly to name two.  My vote goes to Goose Gossage.  Man I hate the Yankees, but he was a beast.  Not to mention, check out how many innings he pitched.  It wasn't a "come in the 3 outs" deal.  He would often come in for two innings.
