Here's an interesting topic that dawned on me-- Players that were drafted the year you were born.
Upon looking up the 1984 mlb draft i was quite suprised at the names that cropped up..
#1 pick went to Shawn Abrem by the New York Mets.. not exactly the best choice.
Braves #1 draft pick in 1984: Drew Denson. hmm.. never really heard of him before. However a few of us have probably heard of the braves second round draft pick.. This southpaw pitcher that goes by the name Tom Glavine.
Other big names drafted in 1984:
Greg Maddux
Al Leiter
Ken Caminiti
Mark McGwire
Terry Mulholland
John Wetteland
John Vander Wal
Here are some diamonds in the rough that were way down in the draft list
Jamie Moyer, 135th overall pick
Rich Rodriguez
Darren Holmes
Chuck Finley, 372nd overall pick
Dante Bichette
Jeff Fassero
Jeff Nelson
And the very last player drafted in 1984 was a catcher by the name of Don Wakamatasu.. drafted by the New York Yankees.
All-in-all, it looks like '84 was a huge crop year for good pitching. Maddux, Glavine, Moyer, Leiter all were aces at one point or another.
If you get curious as to who were the big names drafted in your birth year, here is a pretty good site to find out:www.thebaseballcube.com/draft/1984_1_1.shtml
Happy hunting!
