I don't understand how this was a bad pick.

Everybody is saying that we have other needs...No we don't.

The biggest need we had were at QB and CB and we adressed them both with two good players.

Our LB are fine. TT and MM really like Brady Poppinga not to mention we signed Brandon Chillar. We have really no other needs.

Picking up Jordy Nelson was a great and smart pick. He adds another weapon for Aaron Rodgers. Jordy is going to be great for us for years to come.

I'm telling you guys hes the second coming of Donald Driver (same exact style). Trust me

Watch these videos you'll think twice.

I agree J Migs.  I think this was a pick but perhaps for different reasons.  Some people go into a draft and require we address immediate needs.  However, I think drafting is a long term solution, so instead of providing a stopgap at another position, I like the idea of longterm help at another. We do have a deep recieving corps and do understand why people scratch their heads at the pick, however we play more 5 wide than basically any team in the NFL.  That means we need 5 legitimate weapons and possibly 6 at that position to utilize the package if someone goes down.  One thing that doesn't stand out with Nelson is his speed numbers, although I think his football speed is better than his test speed.  He is a big physical reciever who can adjust to a poorly thrown ball. He can go over the middle and will make this recieving corps even more formiddable than it was last season.  Many teams are 2 deep, maybe some teams are 3 and 4 deep in the secondary, but nobody is 5 deep.

I was unsure of this pick so I started looking at his individual games last year against his toughest opponents:

At Auburn: 9 catches 90 yards (1 passing TD)

At Texas: 12 catches  116 yards (1 receiving TD, 1 punt return for TD)

vs Kansas: 10 catches  137 yards (1 receiving TD)

at Oklohoma St: 12 catches  176 yards (3 receiving TD)

vs Missouri: 8 catches 94 yards (1 receiving TD)

Those are big time numbers against good competition, you can't argue the pick.

Good point on the need for a sixth receiver for our 5 wide set. Look at it this way, I doubt many teams use a five receiver set as often as the Packers have last year. I think it is more common for an offense to use three receivers. However, these teams also have a fourth and fifth receiver, even if they rarely use them. The same can be said about our receiving core. Mike McCarthy likes having five receivers on the field at the same time, so we need a sixth and maybe a seventh so that McCarthy can still use this type of package if or when a player goes down. Also, McCarthy can rotate players in and keep his receivers fresh.

Think about the options McCarthy has now for the passing game: he could use formations with his two pass-catching tight ends (Donald Lee and Jermichael Finley) or he could insert a receiver suitable for the type of plays he designs. Then we have Ryan Grant for draw plays and screens, which could throw off the opponents' defenses. There can even be opportunities for trick plays. I think the drafting of Finley and Jordy Nelson will be important to our offense and open up opportunities for Aaron Rodgers and McCarthy. We have so many talented receivers (including our tight ends) and all of them can gain yards after short passes. If I were an opponent against the Packers this year, I wouldn't focus only on stopping Grant and challenging Rodgers. With this talent, the passing game can be a concern.

I do think that Jordy Nelson is necessary and not a wasted pick. Not only does his character make him a good choice over some of the "me" receivers (Did you read new Titans' receiver Lavelle Hawkins claims? "I can pretty much do it all. I would say I'm a combination of Terrell Owens, slash Anquan Boldin, slash Chad Johnson, slash Steve Smith." What an ego), but he clearly fits the form of the receiver this team needs. And to all of those fans who insist we have all the receivers we need, did you forget that Greg Jennings was injured in both of his first two seasons and has a history of injury problems? Do you realize that Koren Robinson is replaceable, especially considering he didn't add much to the offense? Donald Driver is getting older as well and we will need his eventual replacement. Just the mere fact that our receivers are so physical makes injuries more likely.

Have we forgotten the 4-12 season when almost all our starting receivers were injured? I doubt Ted Thompson did, which is probably part of the reason why he bolstered the receiving core with young talent. I think Nelson will be a good pick and I could see him playing this season. Ruvell Martin might not even be around much longer. But seriously, to all you doubters, do you really think that we have the best possible receivers in our five wide set? Don't you see the potential to become better?

I agree Jordy Nelson will be an immediate contender for the #3 spot with James Jones this season...

And dont say the Packers didnt adress the LB position...With pick #102 in the 4th round we got DE Jermicheal Thompson out of Wake Forest.  Hes got the ability to play OLB which is why we drafted him.

I am not going to hate on Jordy I am just saying that we are prettty deep at WR James Jones Donald Driver Greg Jennings Koren Robinson Ruvell Martin and a few more some one has to go. I think Jordy is a good player and now that we got him I hope that he turns out to be great as a reciever as well as a returner. I just liked Keller as the TE better than Finley. I thought that this years draft was a bit thin on recievers and Driver isn't going anywhere for a while and we were very good as WR so I think it could have waited. At any rate we got what we got I hope all the Draftees can contribute and help the Packers this upcomming season or in the future.

No major complaints here.

One last thing Rodgers better play good or Brohm will be the starter in a few years 2 to be exact. But I hope Rodgers makes it and stays the starter.

I don't understand how this was a bad pick.

Well let me explain...HE himself is a good pick for any team but he was not the right pick for the Packers...I mean yall are always saying we have the youngest, most talented group of WR and most people will agree so WHY would they draft ANOTHER 1 when yall are satisfied with the 5 yall have...so doing this means 1 of those 5 lats year will hit the road...Yall didnt NEED this WR...and even if you didnt have any needs at other positions the WR was the position yall had the most depth and this is going to ruin it...

This was a great pick for 3 reasons.

1) Driver could be in his last year.  Nelson will be able to replace him once Driver's gone with low drop in production.

2) Robinson will be let go and so will Martin.  Robinson was kept around just to keep Favre happy, Martin was a similar receiver with about 1/4 the talent of Nelson.

3) He is almost NFL ready.

Also, Brett Swain looks like a Wes Welker type with better size.  He just finds a way to get open and find holes in the zone
