Why does Prisco dislike Chris Williams and love Otah? I look at 4 or 5 other draft experts and they have Williams ahead of Otah. What is the consensus?

The Bears made a big mistake by drafting Chris Williams. It was the smart pick, but they would have been much better trading down. Williams has no upper body strength and short arms. Two things that make for a bad tackle.
As far as Jeff Otah, he will become a better Tackle, but right now, he is very raw. He is like Max Starks. He has the gifts, now he needs to learn the position.

I just looked at the info on Williams, and there was no mention of a short reach. On the contrary, the report says he relies on his reach and arm strength too much. I just sayin'.

Chris Williams is a massive, athletic man. You will not be dissappointed. He dominated SEC competition. Would it make you feel better if he was a mediocre player with great pub that went to Ohio State??

Williams failed many team physicals due to a back issue. It may be that it will not be a problem, but it is a reason why many teams and beatwriters like Prisco liked Otah over Williams.

ChicagoSportFan,
Not once did I see any criticism of Williams along the lines of what you or Prisco are talking about.
Fact is, Williams graded higher than Otah anyway and is much more athletic.
Williams comes into the league as a solid pass blocker. The knock is that he needs to get stronger and meaner to improve in the running game. He projects as a solid LT and that is what the Bears really needed. This will allow Tait to move to the right side and give the Bears a solid tackle for the next few years.
I would not have been disappointed with the selection of Otah either, but he is more of a mauler and has struggled against quickness. Plus his draft report questions his work ethic and his ability to stay in shape.
I like Williams as the first pick. I'm still not so sure about taking Forte in the second............... I like the player, not necessarily the draft position.
We'll see how things unfold on Day 2.

I would have to agree with you. Going into the draft, the Bears needed to replace their offensive line. Most so called draft experts said they need to go offensive line in the first round and this draft has some good ones at the top. If Prisco had said the Bears should have picked G Albert, who was projected to go before the Bears picked, then I would have agreed but Williams is a huge tackle and a great pass protector, descent run blocker. With Grossman and Orton being slow with no ability to get out of the pocket this pick even makes more sense. How can you say any of the top 5 tackles is better than the other? They're lineman, not quarterbacks

Williams was a smart pick, he is a beast and will be starting for us on opening day. Forte pick kind of upsets me, would have loved to see Angelo pick up Brohm or Henne at #44. Basically Angelo is saying Benson is not our guy with that Forte pick. You don't draft a RB at #4 overall, then turnaround two years later and take another one in the second round.
So Benson basically got the big "up yours" yesterday (which is good) but, I would have loved to see a QB taken there. I hope Forte is worth it, thoughts?
