What do you all think about it? I'm a Pens fan, so I'm hoping to get a more unbiased take on it.

Forgive me for being biased (I will say right here at the very beginning I am a huge Rangers fan) but a goal like that can never be disallowed.  Fleury never came close to controlling it and then the puck is in motion behind him as the whistle is blown.  This needs to be a reviewable play because as good a job as these officials do, there is no way to always be in perfect position to make a call like that with the pace of the game and I understand the need to protect the goalie, but still. Rangers still would have to have won in OT, but this changes everything.

I believe the right call was made, but I am a Penguins fan.  Judging by the ref's position on the ice and where the puck was, it would be very hard if he saw it and I don't believe he could have and did lose sight of it so the whistle was blown, which is the rule.

The whistle blew, that is what the refs do like it or not... I'm a Pens fan but that is the rule no matter what team it happens to.  Sucks if you're a NYR fan but that is the way the breaks go sometimes.

I'd be all for allowing goals like that to be reviewable, the only question is, where do you draw the line if the goalie had control or if it was poked free? How long does the goalie need to be on top. Again, I'd be for doing something like a video review, but it's like PI in football, usually a judgment call and that's hard to change. Just my two cents. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see this goal, had to listen to the second and third periods on the radio.

I know the rule and it is certain that breaks go back and forth and that one goes to the team from Pitt, but my POV is that it should be a reviewable play.  Im saying this more as something to be looked into at rule meetings in the future, not as something today.

That is certainly true.  How does a line get drawn.  I will say for this one though that fleury never even came close....

Slightly off topic, but one thing I'd like to see is being able to put a camera or two in the crossbars to be able to determine if pucks were hit with a highstick and also to give better views on whether the puck crosses the line on close goals, because the crossbar can get in the way of overhead views. I'd think the technology exists to do something like that, just a thought.

Here we go again! Now it's the quick whistle, I guess it just doesn't stop! I'm a Pens fan also and if it happened to our team, then I would have accepted it! First of all, if you have to depend on a soft goal like that at the end of a game to win then you probably don't deserve to win the game! The Rangers had two power plays in the last 5 minutes and they did NOT score. Just like Milbury (even though he's a jerk sometimes) said at the end of the game, the Rangers have nobody to blame but themselves. When you have to resort to complaining about calls and disallowed goals then you know it's just not going your way. Hmmm, I remember a certain high stick goal by Avery that was allowed because it was "inconclusive" code for let's flip a coin because we don't know what the hell to do! COME ON!! STOP THE CRYING!! LET'S GO PENS!

No doubt about it.

The rule says that if the referee cannot see the puck, then play is stopped.

Also, there was no difinitive view on whether or not it was knocked in after the goalie had it.

You don't have to be a fan of either side to know the ref will stop play for either of those reasons.

Good game by the Penguins though.

Rags had their chances and didn't come through.
