In 2007, the NFL Draft was overflowing with future number one receivers.  So naturally the Eagles took Kevin Kolb, a forehead-scratch-inducing QB from a gimmicky system in a non-BCS conference.

This year, the Draft contains one of the deepest QB classes in recent memory, with numerous potential future franchise guys hanging around in later rounds, and the Eagles get a wide receiver.  But not an every down one... a special-option guy.

Don't get me wrong; I think highly of DeSean Jackson.  I followed his career closely at Cal, and he's the real deal.  The moment he steps onto an NFL field, he be one of the top 5 fastest guys in the league.  And as Devin Hester has demonstrated, a returner who can bust open a game can be all the difference.

That said, we still need an every down WR to give McNabb a major target.  I hope there's a trade in the works.

In Trevor Laws' defense, it really was the Notre Dame O-Line that was abysmal last year.  But I'm not sure I get taking an undersized DT.

The phrases you hear over and over again with Laws are "hard-worker," but "under-sized."  When facing mammoths like Jake Long and Joe Thomas, though, I'm not sure that's the best combination.  But we'll see.

i got to believe the Eagles know what they are doing as evidence by the 45 pro bowlers drafted since 2000,be patient fellas i see big things on the horizon...as far as jackson we needed that return guy and we got him i also see them making some more moves and hopefully the Panthers suck next year so we get a high pick...

I agree they know what they are doing, but Damians1 is confused with that stat...The Eagles have had 45 players go to the Pro Bowl since 2000, not 45 drafted since 2000 that went to the Pro Bowl.

I am a die-hard Notre Dame fan and I can tell you that Trevor Laws was a great pick. He blocked 4 or 5 (one of those two) field goals in his career at Notre Dame. He also averaged about 6 sacks a year. He can play every down despite being undersized. Playing Michigan every year, he also played against Jake Long and he didn't look all that bad, guys. I can tell you that he is a great pick.

I am hoping that we draft Tom Zbikowski (just as a ND fan =P) or Josh Barrett. Personally, I think Josh Barrett would be the better pick. I live in Arizona and I am also a big ASU fan, so I watch and go to most of their games. He is the real deal. A very underrated safety in my opinion. Tom Zbikowski is a good safety, but not nearly as fast as one would like. I would love to see him in Philly, though, just because of the fact that he was one of my favorite ND players. Lol.

GO Eagles!

It is easy to to be critical of the Eagles stradegy, but None of these players have played a down in the NFL. Now the Eagles have an extra first rounder to trade or use next year. That said I do feel they must move Sheppard to get a solid reciever. There is no way the Bengals are keeping Chad Johnson. Give them Sheppard and that first rounder and will see how fast they cough up Ocho Cinco.

I'd rather not have Chad Johnson.  Big egos (and big mouths) rarely mesh well with the atmosphere of the Birds' locker room.  On-field talent aside, T.O. brought more headaches to the Delaware Valley than any other athlete in recent memory.
