They make no sense because they are gonna draft 2 first round players and have to pay them signing bonuses and a salary - and they aren't proven. They could have paid J.Allen whom is a 26 year old beast and proven commodity; then draft another need or trade down for a couple picks. It is not a hyped draft but a deep, solid draft (well looks like it, never can tell). Poor Gonzo, they should trade him because he doesn't deserve this. Herm Edwards will be fired soon.
The Vikings have pulled off the steal of the draft. This is like the Moss trade, except you know what you are getting. I am a Pats fan and didn't know what to expect from Randy. Good job Vikings. Oh, get a QB Vikings!

If you listen to CP and the rest of the Chiefs organization, this move makes total sense. KC is REBUILDING. Signing a disgruntled D lineman, who is a risk to begin with, to the biggest contract for D lineman in the NFL, does not make sense. No sense at all.
Jared Allen just landed a contract for much more than the number 5 or number 17 pick is gonna command. According to the Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, the Chiefs are strategizing the future through the draft, and to build a solid foundation through the draft and through youth. This move makes total sense because it increases their picks on the first day, from 4 to 6.
What that means is the rebuilding process is getting an even bigger head start. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Allen's production declines. He might be a flash in the pan.

It was all about getting more draft picks since they are rebuilding their team. It makes sense from that stand point and since they have a lot of holes to fill, this will help considering they have dumped a lot of players.

Your argument holds no water. If they pay the 5th and 17th picks the rookie cap tier money, they just filled 2 holes and SAVED $35 million over the next 5 yrs. Look, how many games were the Chiefs gonna win WITH J. Allen??? Max would be 6!! You have to blow this up and start with a YOUNG base through the draft. The extra picks they got will enable them to BUILD a solid base, IF they draft well. They prolly just acquired 3 good to very good players for one very good DE, who was disgruntled with CP and the whole organization. Better to get what you can now, than have him leave next year or the year after and get NOTHING. HE WASN'T GONNA SIGN WITH KC EVER AGAIN. They made the best decision for the team and fans by letting him go now and getting a BIG return out of the deal.

Exactly balls on your face.
This trade will help the rebuilding process a ton. If 2 of those 3 picks they got, become starters, and real NFL talent, this deal was a great call.
I truly believe Allen will not produce like he did the first 4 years. He's gonna get his money, and like so many other NFL stars, he's gonna reduce production over his next 4 years.
You can count on it!

So keeping Tony Gonzalez makes sense? They should trade him too, right? They should trade or cut LJ than too, right? Because he is done and over the hill. You need something to build on, and you win and lose at the line of scrimmage. The Chiefs let their O-line get old, they let Edwards come in and sign vets that never panned out. He should have came in and rebuilt from the beginning. He screwed the Jets up, andnow he is gonna screw the Chiefs up. Good job! Way to go, and you are all buying the Herm Edwards juice. Don't drink it, just don't do it!

Soxfan,
Herm inherited a nightmare situation. A ton of players about to retire, with nothing in the pipeline. The last two drafts were Herm's first with the Chiefs. As a Chiefs fan I can honestly say he brought in some good players. However, those players were defense with the except of D. Bowe. The offense is based on LJ. He is the offense. Chiefs usually make good moves in regard to offense with som exceptions. I think they'll be OK with that. The O-line is gonna be big this draft. I'm assumming they draft at least 3 O linemen.
Great, but the Chiefs neeed to address so many areas that were bankrupted by Dick Vermiel. Especially D line and D backs. That's where Herm is the man. I hope they make some good decsions. I will actually be watching this draft.

Soxfan, you need to stick to baseball. First of all, it wasn't Herm who brought in all the vets....it was Carl. Second, Gonzo was signed b4 Herm got here. Third, they shoulda traded LJ LAST year when his value was the highest it will ever be. The problem is that most Chiefs fans have NO idea what goes on in KC. Carl has driven this franchise almost into the ground. The owner has taken Carl outta the draft equation this year, which is why they DID NOT bring in a bunch of middle of the road vets to allow them to get to 8-8 or 9-7 this year. They are gonna suck for the next 2 years, but they are gonna get younger and better at the same time. They need to rebuild the O line this year with young studs and fill some holes. Next year we'll be picking high again....that's the price of rebuilding. If the fair weather fans of the Chiefs don't get it.....then jump off our bandwagon and root for the Patriots. If you're a TRUE Chiefs fan, you realize that they MUST do this or we will be mediocre for the next 10 years. Let's try to win a SB and stop just squeaking into the playoffs year after year. 'Nuff said!!

This move clearly shows that the Kansas City Chiefs are going into the rebuilding stage. I actually agree with this move because until the Chiefs can have a functioning offense, they will never be able to compete in the AFC. Now with two first round picks as well as third round picks, they can get both offense and defensive players that they think can contribute in a couple of years. I would rather pick Long over Goldston though. And with pick #17, I would get a WR because their WR bunch is just bad. Maybe Sweed, or a playmaker like Jackson can get the offense back.

Offense starts with an offensive line. LJ was the biggest waste of money and Herm is an idiot. Yes the Chiefs were s | |
