Prisco is just saying things that everyone in the league has known for a long time. Shaun is a me-first player who only tries hard when glory is involved and pretty much mailed it in as soon as he got his big contract.
So why bash Prisco for this? I actually applaud the guy for daring to say anything bad about the supposed NFL MVP years ago... and for making sure you guys all remember what he said. At the time, no doubt, you were all bashing him... and he was right.
Shaun is done. Any Hawks fan who isn't a complete homer can see this. When Maurice Morris is showing more pop and wiggle and able to block and catch to boot, your career really is dead.
That's not to say I wouldn't welcome redemption for Shaun. It would be great to see him apply himself to help a new team, which very possibly could happen now that he's lost his longterm contract in Seattle. Best of luck, #37.

Everything you wrote is absolutely right CanHawk, as a matter of fact, everything Prisco said is right too... However, its completely classless to write an article like this about someone elses failures. It's classes to completely kick a man when he's down, no matter who the man is. Even if Alexander is as bad as Prisco is, this still makes him worse for gloating and boasting like an elementary school child who beat another kid at recess. What's worse... CBS approved this article. As far as I'm concerned, this article should be retracted and Prisco should apologize. After all, this article dosen't hurt Seahawk fans any, I'm still going to be cheering on Jones/Morris/Duckett come gameday. This article just hurts Prisco's credibility as a writer, if he ever had any, and Shaun Alexander. This is the football equivilent of Unsportsman-like Conduct. Terrible.

Here are a few excerpts from Shaun Alexanders' statement yesterday following his release......."I want to thank the Seahawks and Coach Holmgren for all they have done for me and my family over the years. I have nothing but respect and affection for the Seahawks staff, my teammates and the organization. I wish them the best. I especially want to thank the Seahawks fans. You made me feel proud every time I stepped on the field as a Seahawk..........Seahawks fans are among the best."
Shaun Alexander sure seems like a classy guy to me, unlike this idiot Prisco, who you just knew was dying to write this column for months (since the Hawks signed J. Jones). As a Hawks fan, yesterday was a bit sad to see, although for the Hawks best interests heading into the future, it was the right move.
Thanks for everything #37...best of luck!

HawksXL1, Yeah, you could come up with a pretty good speech if you had 6 weeks to write it too. The guy knew it was coming for a long time, of course he would be prepared for this kind of thing and why would he feel the need to say something poorly about the fans? You guys were the ones with the false hope in a pussy-footing, scared of contact runningback. Obviously he's going to love you guys.
Look back at Alexanders 2005 year where he set the td record. I would take an educated guess and say that 60% of those touchdowns were scored from the 1 where he ran around the corner (Not into the hole, or up the gut like a real man does), and the only reason it was possible was because of hutchinson. Hutch is gone, and so is the sheet that was draped over your heads. Morris and Jones are much more competant runningbacks and you should all be slinging your own crap from the tree's in a fit of joy that 37 is gone!

HawksXL, I totally disagree.
You can't just take people's words at face value. Besides, what would you expect him to say? Did you really think Alexander would bash the Seahawks or take responsibility for his selfish attitude during his whole career? He made his money, took a big contract, and then didn't produce at all for the next 2 years. He may have had injuries, but he did not produce when he was healthy either and was outperformed by Maurice Morris this year.
Shaun Alexander is far from classy. He is a selfish, me-first player in a time when we have far to many me-first athletes. I'm sorry, anyone who complains about not winning a rushing title after winning a game, and says his coach "backstabbed" him by not letting him run for 1 yard for the rushing title, is scumbag in my book who has no respect for his teammates or his coach. If you want classy, look up Curtis Martin. He would have never even thought of saying and doing some of this things Alexander did in his career.

I totally agree with CanHawkFan. If it was just a matter of injuries, they would not have cut Alexander so quickly. They know about his attitude and how selfish he is. Only the homers can't figure this out.

Wow guys...your take on Alexander is pretty harsh. Look, I'm not an Alexander apologist. The guy has his faults. That said, I'm a season ticket holder and it was embarrassing last year with people booing him at home. So, the fact he took the high road in his statement yesterday to thank the fans shows me he's pretty classy. Plus, he's given a ton to the community with charitable donations, etc. The one thing he really did (besides seemingly falling down sometimes) was complain after the 04' season and not winning the rushing title. That was BS.
Anyway, tell me any Hawk fan would not take this as an average year for the next Seahawks RB for the next 5 years: 330 attempts, 1500 yards, 4.54 yards per attempt, 17.5 TD's. That's what Alexander did during his 5 year stretch in his prime. Flat out, that's production. I think Prisco just wrote one sentence on this to describe that Alexander was kind of productive. Give me a break!

HawksXL,
This wasnt about him being productive or not, it was about his skills (or lask there of). As explained before, the only reason he was able to gain those kinds of numbers was because he was running behind one of the best OT/OG tanems in history. ANYONE could have put those numbers up in that situation. The only positive thing I can say about the guy is that he could see the field pretty well. But only because he'd take a handoff and sit there for too long looking for a whole. His Barry Sanders impersonation doesnt work so well now without a line! And atleast barry would take that ball with speed and then look for his hole.
I personally would way rather have a back that hits the hole hard and after he gets past that first layer, he finds his holes. That way he has momentum and speed to have the edge on LB's and safeties that are coming up on the play.
