Ok this one's easy, McCoy vs. Chiles. There's been a lot of talk about Chiles should get a chance to start, so who you got and why?

McCoys got experiance..but i think Texas should expirement a little and give the chiles the start in the first game see how it works..im not saying he should start all season but give him a chance and if it works well..lets roll with.. and if it doesn't work then i tihnk Colt might step up this year after the nightmare of last season..so i say chiles but its a close call..

no lord im not stupid.. stupid think back to '05 with Vince..with a running quarterback Texas did awesome and the next year Colt did great with a similar offensive scheme. then last year the offense went to a more power looking offense to utilize colts passing in the pocket..and maybe you've seen Chiles play he would fit perfectly with a Vince style offense..im just saying start him all year.im just saying we should try him in an opening game.

Are you kidding!!!!
There's no issue here. McCoy is the guy. He and the Offense had to carry extra pressure all year because of our weak defense. Our lowest output was 21 points or two ocassions. Eight times we Texas scored 30 or more points. That doesn't sound like there's a problem. Was Colt perfect? No but he continues to earn the right to be the man.
Unless Chiles can play defense he needs to wait his turn. :)

I'm saying Chiles. Hey grinning bear, if you didn't notice, our running game had a lot to do with our offense, not Colt. So give the kid a chance.

okay our running game carried us (the nebraska game comes to mind) not the three interceptions that colt throws a game a game.i have nothing against colt i think he will have a strong year..but as i have said twice before i just want Chiles to get a chance in one of the opening games. and as for chiles needing to play defense. our defense is gonna be stacked next year with the recruiting class we have coming in.. maybe keeping up with what happens off the field might go outside your fan boundaries so continue just watching the games and only knowing the starters

Colt threw for the second most yards in Texas history at a 63% completion rate with more touchdowns than interceptions. I think many teams would love to have a QB with a horrendous year like that.
Yes the running game was great at times. Many times it was Colt running for his life that ignited the team. He did throw too many interceptions.
Maybe he was trying to do too much to make up for one of the worst defenses in team history. If you don't believe it look at the stats. The Defense gave up 100 more first downs and more passing yards the any Longhorn team in history. That's bad! I sure hope the Defense is better or it won't matter who plays quarterback.
I thought the question was who we thought should be the Texas QB? Based on last season I don't think Colt should lose his job.
Experimentation is not an answer. Either you say Chiles is the guy for the season or not. Experimenting happens in the pre-season and Brown will chose the right guy.
I'll support who's playing. If he says it's Chiles fine. :)

Hey I'm not talking about defense, I'm saying that the great year Colt had that you were talking about was his freshman year. I come to recall that Jamaal had a bunch of point sin the 4th quarter of games. Like texas fight said, he should get at least one chance.

And by the way, there is no preseason, so experiment on some team like Florida Atlantic, UTEP, or Baylor for a conference game.

bevofan11, what I described was what Colt did last year. Check out on Mack Brown's website for Texas's records. Colt played really well. If you're going to talk about Colt's inconsistancy you have to talk about Texas's poor defense.
Unless Chiles blows it up in preseason Brown isn't going to create a mess on his team. Jevon Snead understood the situation and he left. Colt likely will be a four-year starter at Texas.
Sounds like you guys want to create a wishy washy situation at quarterback. Are you with the media? :)

Ok, well besides stats, how many times have you seen Colt just take over a game in the fourth quarter where we're down by a touchdown or more? I can tell you, none. That would be the running game once again. And, how many times have you seen Colt have a wide open man down the field and either throw it behind him, over him, or throw an interception? A lot, that even happened in the spring game. (Yes, I was there.) This is like the Chance Mock and Vince Young situation. The only difference is that Colt had a good season and Chance didn't. Vince was a running quarterback just like Chiles is, and look what happened, VY won us a national championship. Our type of offense can suit Chiles, where he can get out of the pocket and tun around for the open throw. That is where he has Colt beat.

What was VY? He was a quarterback with legs that Mack surrounded with receivers who could jump and catch whatever he threw. I'm not comparing VY to Chiles, but it sounds like you forgot we just had a QB w/ legs.
How thin is our receiving core this year?

I think it's important to remember that this is not going to be the same team we have had in the past. Texas doesn't have the "developed" talent they have had in the past starting. Colt has had a good year and a not so good year. The o-line probably did have a lot to do with that. I don't think you need a qb controversy. Colt's is the starter and if doesn't show any improvement, you start preparing Chiles. UTEP, Fl. Atlantic should be good opportunities. He needs to play as much as possible in those games to keep developing. It completely different when running the offense at practice and running a offense in a real game no matter who you play. I like Chiles running ability too, but he has to be able to throw the ball with some accuracy. VY wasn't the greatest thrower, but got away with it because of his legs. I don't Chiles has VY's legs, so he will have to be a better passer.
I really don't think the problem for Texas this year is the qb. For the first time in a long time, Texas doesn't have a player at one of the skill positions who is a big impact player. There are some good players on paper and we see if they get developed into great, but I really don't see any game breakers on offense early on. Hopefully this will change as we progress through the year and into the next few years. The biggest help should be the o-line. They have a year of experience under their belt.
It's going to be a tough season. I think we better all get prepared.

I think you gotta give the nod to Colt. With the BIg 12 the way it is this year Texas' QB will be competing with arguably three of the best in the nation. With having to do that you gotta go with the kid with mo | |
