this year the NCAA has set a new clock rule

this rule now stops the clock after a first down is made, and the clock will stay stopped until the snap of the next play. as opposed to it begining when the chains are reset.

This new rule could have easily turned a handful of games around in '07.

so the question is.

The new clock rule: For or Against?

I am against the new clock rule because I liked the old set up. This makes the games more fast pace and there are more no huddle, hurry up offenses when the game is on the line. This new rule gives the teams more time to set up and run a play and I like watching those fat offensive linemen running down the field after a long gain, trying to get set up for the next play. This takes away from that.

See, I don't get this.  Wasn't it 2 years ago that everyone was up in arms about the length of games being too long so they had the clock start right when the ball was set after punts and KOs?  Yes, it was.  And it was met with contempt.

Last year, everyone seemed to agree that they liked the old system, clock stops after 1st downs for teams trying to get back in it, starts when the ball is set.

So this year they basically are trying to lengthen the game now?  Can't leave well enough alone?

Horrible rule.  And it really will not be helpful to athletes aiming for the NFL.  Players won't be taught to use the sidelines, hurry up offenses will become much slower, WRs won't have to run certain routes to essential perfection and learn to use only certain parts of the field available to them....

Helps no one.  Stupid.  What do they do in those NCAA rules meetings, just drink bourbon and watch reruns of Mad About You?

yeah you got that right it seems everyone i've talked to feels the same as you including  me. it takes away from the excitment of the two minute offence..extending the game is stupid..

i neither agree with this rule and the rule instated last year that ran the clock on kicks..

texas,

Has that been finalized?  I thought they were again going to change it and make it faster.  Not like the dumb rule two years ago.  But still it was going to speed up the game.

I agree with the others.  Leave well enough alone.

Texas,

I think those were the rules for 2007.  There is an article dated 31 March 2008 that lists the new changes.  In short, the 25 second clock will be started immediately upon spotting of the ball, except in the last 2 minutes of each half.  That is on plays that go out of bounds.  Also, there will be a 40 second clock now that starts immediately after the whistle is blown ending the previous play.  A bit confusing.

No more horsecollar tackling and also coaches get two challenges.a game and an additional one if the first challenge is successful.

Could be wrong but that is what the article says.  Site is Fantasy College Blitz.
