The difference between the Pirates and the Mets is that Pittsburgh is a small market team that has experienced failure again and again over the last ten years.  The Mets are failures,  they just do it with a 140 million dollar payroll...

I think mlb salaries have reached the ridiculous stage. Some owners can afford them and some can't. This ruins some teams' chances for a winning season, and has a negative influence on team attendance and income, thus making a bad situation worse. It's just not good for baseball as a whole to have such a disparity.

Fans should demand a salary cap and force the leagues to stick to it. Unfortunately it won't happen short of a major boycott at the gates. Money talks and BS walks.
