There is much excitement in Lincoln nowadays.  Children of the corn have always flocked to the stadium, without question they are dire fans.  With a record price of a bushel of corn now more than double what it was 10 years ago (nearly $6.00), thanks in part to ethanol and government subsidies, is it any wonder farmers aren't willing to pay $100 bucks to watch the spring football scrimmage game?  They won't plant corn untill May.  However, QB Joe Ganz looks to be the real deal; and the return of Tom Osborne who seems to have made the perfect head coach hire in Bo Peline, maybe they can start winning again.  Peline is the defensive specialist Nebraska desperately needed.  Cornhuskers gave up a bumper crop of points last year.  Perhaps the talent has always been there but it just needed Osborne to manage and Pelini's to farm it.  I like the fact Pelini spent time coaching in the NFL with the 49ers, Pats, Packers.

Nebraska may be the most improved team next season!

They will go from winning 5-6 games a season, to winning 7-9 games a season.  Only because Bo Pelini coaches these kids and coaches them well!

Nebraska may be the most improved team next season!

I'm very impressed to see you making positive comments about another team outside of S. Cal. RPM - Keep it up!

It will be interesting to see how well Neb. does this year but I don't have high expectations for them just yet.  I am excited about Pelini being there and LSU fans would like nothing more than to see him succeed. It may take a year or two or it may be just like you said; the talent was already there, they just didn't have the right leader.

I thought the mentality under Calahan was very flashy and to simply outscore opponents.  That doesn't fit very well in Lincoln.  That style was epitomized at half-time of the Colorado game when Calahan was asked how they got back into it and the only thing he talked about was adjustments on offense.  Truth was, defense started making some stops.  Guess there was no focus on defense at half-time of that game.  Defense wins games and Ganz impressed me last year.  The offensive players seemed to really respond to him last year.

I expect that to continue, even if their offense is changed and hopefully simplified.  But the expected improvement and attention to detail on defense will be the difference.  I look for 8 or 9 wins this year.  We'll have to wait and see.
