NBA news conference just finished. Team approved to move to OKC. Bennett said he would prefer that the Sonics name and colors stay in Seattle. He owns the Sonics name, but felt it needed to stay in Seattle. He likes the idea of a new name and colors for the OKC team. If the rental agreement can not be bought out, then the team would stay in Seattle for 2 years, and then they move.

Hummm.... Well played OKC well played.... You when this round...
The longer Bennet stays in Seattle the harder it'll be to get the Sonics out. If the Sonics play two more years you can bet they'll vote again...

c-hox how can you say this twerp won this round? At this point in time, the vote is totally meaningless. An empty gesture from others with larceny in their hearts. You can't really be surprised that most of the owners voted this way can you? I mean think about it a moment, if Bennett can get away with the crap he's pulling what can they get away with in the future. Let's not forget that Bennett has not one but three cases pending against him in court and any single one could totally wipe out his chances.

Whether the team comes this year, next year, or the year after, they are coming here. The lawsuits mean nothing. Sonics former owner is just trying to save face. It is just to late for anyone to do anything about it. The more the city of Seattle tries to fight this, the harder it will be to get another team in the future. Stern has already made it known that is his not very happy with Seattle and its so-called leaders.

Yesterday was a black eye for the NBA. I've said all along that OKC deserves a team, just not like this.
What precedence does it set for a city to fully renovate an arena, which, at the time, David Stern said was one of the best in the NBA, then 12 years later this happens? It's awful.
I understand the people from OKC are fired up about this. But, I ask you. What happens in 10 years when Bennett, Stern and Co, say either build them a new $600M arena or they're leaving town.......what happens then? Because, the way it's presented to Seattle, that was our ONLY option of keeping the team, despite the full renovation just 10 years ago.

Make that a 1.3 billion stadium request. This is an amazing precedent indeed. It is sport for the highest bidder. It is the Roman Coliseum on auction.
When the Sonics get there, OKC, you will have earned it, that is for sure. Just do not expect to sign top players or compete at a high level. I live in Charlotte, NC... I know.
Best wishes. Sorry you had to get a team this way. Enjoy them when they leave for Vegas.
Hasta.

Leave it to some stupid okie to think that contracts are meaningless. You need to get this through your thick skull. All three cases pending against Bennett mean everything. And as June approaches you'll notice him getting more and more desperate. Federal judges aren't a corrupt board of governors. They can't ignore the evidence and say "well gee why not just cancel the lease, forget the promise you made in writing to keep the team in Seattle and forget your duplicity to the fans to get them to purchase season tickets." Long story short; Schultz gets the team back and sells it to the Balmer group. Sonics stay in Seattle where they belong and everybody is happy.

kidder95 I'd bet any amount that there will never be a team in Vegas. The referee betting fiasco put paid to that idea.

Total agreement from and Okie here, NiteHawk. No b-ball team ever in Las Vegas, if they can't even have and all-star game without violence erupting, they ain't getting any team. Plus, the NBA would try to say no betting on Pro Basketball as a pre-condition and there's too much money in that racket for them to ever give it up.

Yeah I agree the longer they are hear more chances we have. The threats from the NBA comish are stupid saying we won't get a team if we don't pull the law suit. Screw the comish this is a NBA city and we can keep the sonics. And if anything bennet will lose ton of money. The more the maryer!!!
