It amazes me still to think that every one on this board who dreams about who the Jets should draft and then forget who is the most important player on the field on any given Sunday.

No one would argue that Brady and Peyton Manning are the heart and soul of their teams and it is highly unlikely that either of these teams would have the success that they have had without either player.

I laugh out loud when everyone on the board is praying and hoping for a defensive player to fall to them and only a few who have posted recognize that the Jets will not win anything unless they have a QB that gives them instant credibility.

I am more willing to see another lousy year with a glimmer of hope for the future than to go through another season with a mediocre QB. The Jets will need to finally make a statement to their fans that they recognize that they can't even consider the playoffs until they can draft a QB which they strongly feel will get them to the next level.

Many on this board all claim that the Jets have added all the necessarry pieces to be a competitive football team I completely disagree for the most important player on the team is the QB and how can anyone feel comfortable with either Pennington or Clemens.

I prefer not to gamble with what I already know and that is that Pennington will not be the QB that will single handidly win any games for the Jets and Clemens who has lousy footwork and is too small to throw in the pocket will ever be the QB that will transition the Jets to a playoff caliber team.

I will beat this idea for a long time simply because it is foolish to think that the Jets are going anywhere with the present QB's and its high time that the Jets draft a QB that will reshape the franchise and strike fear into our opposing defenses.

I am so sick of hearing Gholstons name and everyone thinks that a situational pass rusher will get the Jets into the playoffs in their first year. Didn't the Jets just spend a ridiculous amount of money on Pace?

I don't care for T & M and as I have said in previous posts I can forgive them as long as they draft a QB with some promise and even after they are both gone and the QB emerges as the saviour of the Jets I will be thankful to them for drafting a promising QB.

If T & M know whats good for them they will make a serious attempt to draft one of the highly touted QB's in this draft and I will not be surprised if the Jets draft Matt Ryan for it is without question that the weakest link on this team is the QB position.

hey i agree with you. to an extent just because i think sometimes teams can win with mediocre qb play but obviously they have to have a good running game and a great defense and get lucky a little.. but honestly i would have no problem with them drafting matt ryan with the first pick.. he has alot of potential to be a Carson Palmer type qb and i dont mind if they start him from week one and we only win 6 games if hes the future then we need to go to whoever they think that is and start the future right now...clemens isnt i completly agree with you on him, he will always be a no.2 qb at best his footwork really is terrible and i hate that we wasted a 2nd round pick on him... pennington gives alot better shot to win so think we draft mcfadden first round and brohm in the 2nd? i like that or ryan first and whatever elite running back drops to the 2nd round.. i dont think any of the recievers are worth taking in the 2nd round all of them just have bust written on them and they dont show very much potential to be dominant.. i just hope that M&T see this as well... and i think they do.. and i think they draft a qb for sure in this draft.. pennington is a good teacher and i say we trade clemens for a 3rd round pick if we can and draft a qb and let pennington groom him...and start him this year... thats our best shot too become an elite team within the next 2 years... matt ryan a new york jet? i like the sound of it.

nyj1424, i agree with you on most of wat u said. the only tthing is we wont draft a qb this year. and trading clemens is WAY out of the question.  to trade someone who stepped on the field for half of a season behind a bad line is ridiculous.  in my personal opinion i say screw pennington and clemens. why not give ratliff a shot? no one has seen him play yet and u never know he could turn out to be good.

Rudyi4..you said that teams can't win with a mediocre QB right? And that defense doesn't win? Two words for you Chicago Bears. How do they win their games? The keyword here is Defense.

Sure has been a long time since we have seen the 86 Bear defense. If they had a better QB they could of won but the didn't and thats why they lost. in their most recent SB appearance.

Rudy you and I go round and round on this one, and I love that we can do it without resorting to the usual "you're an a hole and so forth" I hate it when manyt of the posters on these boards disagree so they resort to calling to each stupid, and saying neither has an ounce of football sense. You know exactly what I'm talking about and so do many of those who are on these boards. It just demeans the entire Jet fan base to resort such immature communication.

Now back to the main point, you insist we need a to draft a new QB, to give the team it's only true chance at a future in this league. Thats where we disagree, while you may be 100% correct, I contend that all the failures and apparent lack of quality QB requirements on the part of Clemmens are more due to the absolute failure of the teams coaching and gneeral management staff to correctly staff and prepare this franchise for giving the minimal security due any professional teams offense. Especially when the entire coaching regime is new and every play in our offensive playbook was also fairly new even if mostly as well disguised as a bowl of oatmeal at a homeless shelter. We never even got a chance to see any real footwork on the part of Clemmens as their is a great differance between true "footwork" in the form of artistry, as we have seen from the likes Vick and Tarkenton (a rather unfair comparison I admit) to Brady and Manning and all those who learned when and how to step up into the pocket just in time to avoid the pressure and get off a pass to one of their receivers who over a period of time had developed that nearly blindfolded understanding of when to break your route and come back to save your QB's behind. When we see Brady and Manning and Brees and even Hasselbeck ( as poorly ass he's looked doing it)  we say Damn these guys are good, and the fans from every team can appreciate their beauty as an art form. But when we have situations like we saw with our team last year, where there was no sense of who was where and when the timing was just right to bvreak your route and come back to sve your QB it looks downright misrably disgusting, are we agreed at least on that? Clemmons was never given the time to learn anything other than how plays were meant to look on paper, thats about the extent of his pre season and workout training sessions went. He was never meant to see the field last year, unless it was mop up time in the 4th. But Chad even with his tremendous amount of knowledge and experience on the field in live game situations was in no way prepared for the complete abandonment of both QB's by our front office. After they took Kendall out of the picture any and all form of a leader and mentor was gone completely, wqe can thank God that Mangold turned out to be such a phenominal athlete and natural leader of men, and kept his personal feelings seperate from the teams terrible performances and the destruction of nearly every offfensive play we ran with that line of poor excuses for men that Tanenbaum, Mangini, Schotty left our team on the field against professional hit men, who smelled blood on nearly every snap of the ball. Yet I still say that for as poorly as our QB looked most of the time, they had some truly great moments out there. A highlight of the year nominee catch and roll over the defender then jump up and run it in for the TD by Cotchery was a thing of pure eloquent mental awareness and physical perfection. They're were a few others, but I just feel that Now that Faneca and even Woody(who is going to be much better than many think) along with Bubbas' great leadership and blocking abilities and the true pro bowl fullback to really get out in front and get our backs into the second level of the defense, where they only went twice last year, once because they couldn't tell if they had actually made it or there was a penalty. LOL.

My whole point is that the Jets are 100% more prepared now than last year. And that Clemmens will finally be in the position to go through an entire pre season worth of voluntary camps and have an amazing amount of information pre processed before he's thrust onto the field unprepared like he was last year. He'll be ready this year, and the only real differance is that when he hands of the football to one of his backs, they are,t getting hit as the hand of occurs like so many time last season.

I believe in our guys now, and you believe we have yet to get our QB of the future. Either way both of us will be looking at the same games, and after every game we will compare our notes and constantly be assesing what we could or should have done differantly if anything, I won't say better because that would mean I'm already giving you the psychological advantage of inadvertantly assuming you were correct at that moment in time on that game, I refuse to give you even that level of advantage, I'm right and Clemmens will come out of the season with a QB rating of 78 or above, but I truly feel he'll reach into the high 80's low 90's in QB ratings, therby securing his future with the Jets, and I will accept any and all admittances from you now that I will be correct, plus give you a 20% discount on the crow eating meal anytime before the start of the season. LOL

I can't wait for you get back at me, because I know you'll have the advantage of knowing what to respond to, but I figured you would need that edge as we approach the draft, only six days and a wake up as we used to say in some of my less than favorable "homes" Take care Rudy, and i'm really looking forward to hearing from you, it's just such a good feeling knowing that we are 2 of the longest standing fans on these boards and yet we can conduct ourselves and disagree completely and still have the utmost respect for each other, and not have to resolve to the tactics of the feeble minded vocabulary limited answers that we see far too many of on thesae boards. I also want to thank all of those of you who are on my favorites fron one reason or another for helping to make this a great site for all Jets fans, and if any of my comments offended anyone then please accept my full apology to you and my personal invitation for you to join the Patriots fan site. See Ya Later ,Rogues

Do you remember Clemens in Oregon?  Much better than any of the guys in this draft...  He needs to mature a little bit, but I think that will come this season.
