I think it's great to have the Marlins leading the division with the least payroll. I'm honestly thinking about converting to a Marlins fan. They have the best baseball tradition in the current age with two world series against the Braves one.

So far, you have Cheesehead have been talking about going to other teams.  In my honest opinion, I have to say..."Go and cheer for that team then".  If you really want to follow a new team, you aren't a fan anyway.  That is called a bandwagon fan.  The Braves have been lucky enough to own the 1990's and more but you have to realize that down times happen to everyone.  And trust me, if you are sick of losing and you follow the Marlins...life will be really frustrating for you.  Trust me.  They won't last.  But in all seriousness, I no longer consider you a Braves fan.  Let's just hope your little sister hacked onto your profile and wrote that thread for you.  This is just sad.  Please just go to the Marlins.

What Mr. Jones said might have been a tad bit mean but he is right, a fan wouldnt want to switch teams.  I will be the first person to admit that the Braves are playing worse than a bunch of middle aged men in a pick up softball game, but come the end of the year they will be above the Marlins.  But hey its a free country you can cheer for whoever you want, I cheer for the Royals, Red Sox's, and Cubs, but if it came down to a game between any of those teams and the Braves I would always be on the Braves side.

It's a 162-game season - not a 13-game season.

Go ahead and become a Marlins' fan. But let's look at the facts. When the Florida Marlins won their first World Series, it was a lineup the best money (outside of the Yankees) could buy. Period.

Even after the World Series, finances were so bad that the owner basically got rid of every well-known player on the team.

I personally don't believe in buying championships. The Marlins bought their first one for sure.

I would say that you are not a true Braves fan if you are thinking about changing teams after 14 games....  I think a true braves fan would stick with them regardless of how well they are playing.

The true definition of a fan is one who stands by his/her team thru the good and the bad.  If a poor 14 game stretch can make you question your "fanhood" then you weren't really a fan to begin with.

A lot of us have been with the Braves for 20+ years.  We remember what it was like during the lean years of the 80s and we're still here.

So, go ahead and convert.  Just the fact that you had the thought to convert makes me embarassed to call you a fellow Braves fan.

GO BRAVES!

Hard to add anything to the guys who've already written, but I tend to drone on about things anyway, so why not echo the thoughts of everyone else now ;-)

I guess you want to be "that guy".  You all know the type.  The guy who had the Patriots cap on this year in January, but now suddenly has a NY Giants bumpersticker over the top of his Indianapolis Colts sticker from last year.  The guy who talks loudly about how big a fan he is, but couldn't tell you the starting rotation, or makes statements like "The Braves aren't even going to win 35 games this year" - sorry had to.  Everyone has to have their niche in life, and if thats your style then go open that closet door filled with all the latest fads, take out your braves stuff and make room for the Marlins junk.  I'm sure the MLB retailers will welcome you with open arms, and keep a stock of Nat's jerseys ready for you in 2 years.  BTW if you have an XL Teixeira jersey that you're ready to discard let me know ;-)

With all the "when did you become a fan" threads from the offseason I'm not going to rehash it, but I will admit that in reality I've never been through the "bad times" with this team.  I basically became a fan in year 1 of the run of 14.  I've suffered through a lot of playoff chokes, but I always could say "at least my team was playing in October" until the last 2 years.  And it has to be said that if these last 2 years are "the bad times" for this team then we've got it pretty good.  I mean you could always be a marlins fan and watch the ownership tear your heart out after winning the series by selling every player they have off, and knowing that for the next 4 years you wont see a winning season let alone the playoffs.

Maybe that's what we should call your fan type instead of bandwagon fans.  Maybe you're a leap year fan.  The kind that prefers to cheer for 1 year, and then let his team rebuild for 4 so that he can wake up and cheer again for that 1 year.

Well, I've wandered around the subject for a while now, but I have 1 more question.  If you truly are thinking of switching.  Why in the world would you waste your time on an opponents bulletin board to post a post?  Go to the Marlins board.  I'm sure both of the posters there will welcome you with open arms.  And please turn in your tomahawk on your way out the doorflap of the teepee.

Go Braves!!!
