Blake Dewitt

Lets talk Dewitt. I hope he gets plenty of time on the field with Nomar back. He has proved himself at thirdbase and should get more starts. I do not want to see this guy leave. Hopefully Torre recognizes his talents and continues to use him as much as possible. Not knocking Nomar, but Dewitt is young and has shown he deserves to stay in the majors.

I also believe we are better with Jones, Kemp and Ethier starting every day and pierre spelling them once or twice a week than with Pierre getting regular at bats and taking them away from our better outfielders.

I can't seem to get a handle on the 5th starter spot...don't know what the right answer is...as long as they keep us in games...I'm cool with whatever happens there.

I love what DeWitt has done so far. He's made some rookie mistakes, but he's delivered. Nomar is going to get the nod, but the Dodgers have to be careful there because he has been getting more and more fragile these past few seasons. Nomar's power has also dropped off, but his glove remains A-plus. Still, you could count on DeWitt as a solid backup at the hot corner.

I don't think LaRoche should get an automatic bump past DeWitt. When LaRoche has been with the big league club, he has yet to post the kind of numbers DeWitt has this season. I say DeWitt has set the bar and LaRoche needs to win that job.

Either way, one of the biggest keys will be how are you going to get DeWitt the at bats and playing time he needs to continue his development. You don't want him on the big club just to sit.

Dewitt has been solid both offensively and defensively so far this year, and his efforts have been greatly appreciated. However, his offensive numbers are not that spectacular and I think he needs to spend more time in the minors where he can play everyday. I think that Laroche needs to be starting at third base when he returns, he has the best power of the three.

Another positive of having Laroche start is to find out if he really is our future third baseman. Give him a full opportunity to show what he can provide, and keep Dewitt waiting in the wings in case Laroche falters.
