It was very nice to see the offense kick it into gear. For only the second time all year they collectively looked comfortable at the plate and actually seemed to be having fun. Even Andruw Jones had a couple small hits. At this point I'll take any production he can muster. But it was cool to see them score in double digits for the second time in a week. I would love to see some consistency and hopefully avoid the future 1-0 losses. There is nothing worse than 1-0 losses and we had our fair share last year (especially against the Padres). So, hopefully this effort can spark the offense and maybe they can put a little winning streak together and finish April strong.
By the way, as critical as I have been about the offense I acknowledge that not everyone has struggled so far this year. I haven't failed to notice the consistency of Furcal and Loney. James Loney is starting to grow on me and I hope he can keep his hitting streak going. Ethier & Kemp have also been pretty good and have potential to get better. I think the Dodgers are in good shape at catcher, shortstop, firstbase and the two corner outfield spots. I hope in the offseason they can address thirdbase, secondbase & centerfield. These are problem areas still, but 5 out of 8 position spots solidified is a good start.
Nice win tonight. But I am already anxiously awaiting next year as the year when I think they can really contend. If the Dodgers could put together just one decent off-season I think optimism could come back to Dodgertown!!
