Do you think the Dodgers team has been the biggest disappointment in the MLB since 1988? Obviously there have been worse franchises (in regards to W/L percentage and such), but given team expectations/$$$ available/$$$ spent/farm systems….. I believe they might be the team that has underachieved most in the last 20 years. True/Untrue? Any other teams you feel have underachieved more?

I believe its the Padres have underachieved more than anyone....they live in the most beautiful city on the planet... every person on the planet would live there if they could afford it...some of the best high school players come from in and around San Diego..and they haven't been relevant... they can't get any top tier free agents to come..there farm system is below average and the only thing positive about the Padres in the last twenty years is Trevor Hoffman, Tony Gwynn and Jake "Dirty Hands" Peavy...at least the Dodgers attempt to spend money to try and improve their team...all you guys do is bring in retreads and pray to finish in third place....don't bring your self-serving stupid crap on our board...put that on the main board...

Dodgers rule!!!!

Are you kidding me????? I'm assuming you are joking when you say that. The Padres have underachieved more since 1988 (last 20 years)?...Don't the Dodgers only have like 1 playoff victory in 20 years even though they spend $$$ like the top teams in the MLB. I agree with a lot of what you said, which is pretty much my point. The Pads really don't spend $$$, they have not seemed to develope that much talent, but in the last 20 years they have won more playoff games, more divisions, more NL penants.......it just amazes me how the Dodgers can keep loosing. I'm curious to see how many teams in the last 20 years have less playoff wins than the Dodgers. I know TB does (but they have not been around for 20 years), Brewers and Royals maybe (can't remember forsure).

I think the Mets could fit into the same category. They spend a lot of money and make the playoffs but can't seal the deal. The Red Sox spent a lot of money for a long time before they got thier championships. The Dodgers are going to get there but it has been to long for me and they have been very disapointing to say the least but there are others teams out there that spend money groom young talent and don't win so we are not alone. The Cubs should be on the list also. Maybe even the Braves. They won in 95'(I think) but never seem to have enough to win once they get to the playoffs. Got to be tough on fans when you win the division that many times and end up with just 1 championship.

The answer is yes. ABSOLUTELY! As a die hard Dodger fan it's difficult to admit, but no team has underachieved over the past 20 years like the Dodgers. And it's taken a real team effort from everyone involved to be so pathetic for so long. The Dodgers have no excuse to only have 1 playoff game win over that long a stretch. It's unbelievable. With the great history and tradition, the huge market, plenty of money and tons of fans, the Dodgers have everything going for them. But they are not a well run organization. Over and over again they made bad trades and free agent signings while at the same time failing to go after the marque players. How many times did they refuse to make a legit run at a potential franchise player? Ken Griffey Jr., Vlad Guerrero, Manny Ramirez, Magglio Ordonez, Alex Rodriguez, Alfonso Soriano, etc...just to name a few. Instead they waste money on 2nd rate players on the decline or hold onto young prospects too long and then trade them just as they are getting good.

The Dodger organization is the MLB version of the Detroit Lions with regard to how poorly the franchise is run. The only difference is unlike the Lions, fans of the Dodgers actually have high expectations and are let down every single year.

Those who can't admit what a disappointment this franchise has been over the past 20 years are in complete denial. And I won't stop griping until they finally go out and get a franchise player in an attempt to turn this thing around. Anyone with half a brain watching this team struggle to score runs every year should realize that nothing will ever change until they bring a legit slugger on board. Otherwise the next 20 years are going to be exactly the same.

dpwtv,

I hate the Padres, but I think you are a complete moron if you really think that the Padres have underachieved more than the Dodgers over the past 20 years. Good grief. It's one thing to be a fan, but it's a whole different thing to be completely blinded by your rooting interest as to not even live in reality anymore. Usually I enjoy your posts because you have great enthusiasm. Sometimes your enthusiasm even convinces me for a brief moment that there might be something to be optimistic about. But then I remember that the Dodger organization continually does the least with what they have. They should be the Red Sox and Yankees of the west coast. They should be throwing money at the marque free agents every winter and making big deals at the midseason trade deadline every year. But they keep doing the same useless crap over and over again.

You know what the difference between the Dodgers and the Padres are? The Dodgers have the superior name, city, market, history, tradition, ballpark, resources and fanbase. The Dodgers have everything the Padres lack.

You know what the difference has been ON the field over the past 20 years? The Padres get more out of what they have. The Padres have had post season success, including a trip to the World Series. The Padres had an identity and a superstar with Tony Gwynn. The Padres always play better defense and are better coached. This year both teams have great pitching and struggle offensively. But the Padres once again are getting more out of their players and are playing harder and smarter and have a better defense. The Padres play with a chip on their shoulder because they know all the advantages their spoiled big brother up in L.A. get to play with and it makes them jealous and passionate. The Padres always save their best efforts for when they play the Dodgers. Year in and year out the Padres have a better head-to-head record. They care more. Should I go on?

The Dodgers have easily wasted their silver platter of advantages more than any other big market sports team over the past 20 years. And in baseball more than any other sport, big market teams should dominate because the entire landscape of the sport is bent in their favor.

The Dodgers used to be a storied franchise. One of the greatest sports franchises in the world with a rich tradition and so much cherished history. It's taken 20 years, but with enough effort and determination they have successfully sullied all those years of prominense and turned this once great franshise into the laughing stocks of major league baseball. Ownership over the past 20 years have proven again and again that they do not care about restoring the Dodgers into what they used to be. It's all about making money and the big losers are the remaining Dodger fans.

20 years ago when the Dodgers won the World Series in such dramatic and inspiring fashion I was so proud to be a Dodger fan. I thought I had died and gone to sports heaven. Little did I know at the time that every ounce of future Dodger pride, passion and magic apparently needed to be traded in for that championship. The feeling from 1988 is almost gone. I never thought that would happen. Soon it will be completely forgotten, and all that will be left is this watered down lackluster version of the team I once loved so much.

The Padres? We should be so lucky.

Shoktart and everyone else,

I WAS JOKING!!!!! I don't appreciate it when Padre fans come on OUR BOARD and starting posts that insult us right off the bat... of course we've underacheived... a lot. We all know that..we don't need a Padre fan to come over here and tell us... i just don't appreciate someone coming to our house and insulting everyone who lives here and the peoples family...I'm all for stirring debate...but I don't walk into your house meet your wife and say..you've been living with that for 20 years....you could've done so much better...maybe you should've traded your wife and Juan Pierre for a supermodel

I feel sorry for you...that you feel so much shame for our team...I love the Dodgers...more than any sports team out there..whether they win or lose..i respect this team for what it has done on and off the field...we will always be a storied franchise...that will never go away....and if you let the struggles we've had the last 20 years take that away from theis fantastic franchise...well, I'm not the one who's a moron....

for the record...the most underachieving team in the last 20 years is the Mets....then us...
