My vote was for fifth place, but anywhere from 3-6 I believe is quite possible. Rochestie has turned into one heck of a player (especially when his shot is dropping) and Baynes finally proved himself to me with his performance against Hansborough, he out played him. Add in Harmeling as a straight shooting swingman and a glueguy Forrest who I believe will be every bit as good as Cowgill and you have a quality four out of your starting five. That fifth spot is going to be difficult to fill though, I believe it will be another point because Bennett likes having multiple options to initiate the offense. The problem is that they really don't have any more points, Sauls would have been one other point, but it has now been reported that he plans to transfer closer to his Houston home. If that scholarship ends up going to Paul McCoy, the #10 rated point guard who reportedly has drawn interest from the Cougs, he may end up having a chance to start. Or the team may restructure their offense altogether and simply go with a more conventional off guard such as Koprivica or Abercrombie. However it plays out it should be fun... sorry for getting off-topic.

That freed scholarship could also be going to DeAngelo Casto, PF, out of Ferris in Spokane. Personally, I would rather have him than McCoy. He's an Ivory Clark clone with a solid 3 point shot and better ball skills. Harthun Could probably rotate in right away when TB wants that three G look. Either way, it's a great position to be in; both kids are super.
It's going to be an exciting year because expectations will be low again, but we will have an unprecedented group of young athletic talent being molded by a legendary coach in the making.
Go Cougs!

If Casto clears academic hurdles that he has and McCoy doesn't get the scholarship then I'm pretty sure it will end up with him. I don't know if I had compared him to Ivory Clark on the board, but that's what I've told anybody I've talked to and that has people excited. I'm just really worried about that PG position, they only have one true point this year and next year Taylor will be gone. At scout.com I've seen that they've already offered several scholarships to point/combo guards to come in next year, but I wouldn't feel to comfortable with a freshman handling it.

I agree, that is going to be a point of concern in 09-10, and next year if (God forbid) something happens to Rochestie. With that in light, perhaps McCoy would be the better option, as Casto would really be serving the a similar role as Capers/Thompson/Abercrombie. That is, assuming he accepts the scholarship reportedly offered to him by Bennett (The Oregonian reported this, but I have not heard it confirmed yet).

The x-factor to whether McCoy or Casto would be better for the team may be the incoming James Watson (whom I'd previously forgotten about). If he bulks up a little bit, he has the atheleticism to become the shot blocking machine that Ivory Clark was. If he pans out, I think I'd like adding McCoy more, but Casto certainly wouldn't be a disappointment. Another possibility is that Casto doesn't meet the academic requirements and will go to prep school (which he says he'll do if he misses the academic cut) and become part of the next years class. That may be the best from a purely basketball standpoint (maybe not for Casto personally), but I'd love to see us be able to bring in both. Especially Casto since he's a local product :)

DeAngelo Casto has signed his LOI and will become a Cougar next year if he just finishes out the work he has to do academically. He should bring some memories of Ivory Clark with him, which should be a joy for everyone to watch.
Let's hope that we get a couple scholarships out to PGs next year because we will be in for some serious need there.
