What the Mets need, is for the fans to RELAX! It's only been 6 games!
Reading some you guys makes me crazy. Some of you guys have Castro as our starting C, Gotay as our starting 2B, keeping Pagon as the starting LF.
Get real guys these player are backups and for a reason!

Brian Schneider and Ryan Church have both played very well so far. They have Fernando Martinez waiting in the wings for either 2009 or 2010. Angel Pagan and Moises Alou will be fine in left field once Alou returns from his hernia surgery. The number one need for this team is starting pitching. They need at least one more starter. They need to sign Freddy Garcia to a contract. He should be ready to pitch by July or August. Even when Pedro comes back. He cannot be counted on to stay healthy the remainder of the season nor can he be expected back next year unless he is a back of the rotation pitcher.

Tartans, I have tried to say the same thing in previous posts, hoping that the Mets will snap out of it and was hoping that last years collaspe didnt carry over into this year...
I didnt see the game on TV yesterday, but the Mets had some chances to score some more runs, but couldnt come up with that 2 out hit or just a hit for that matter...too many mental mistakes, Delgado's error, walks, hitting batters etc...
The Mets need some get some swagger back, start playing baseball like they are capable of playing...I feel that everything will be ok, we have plenty of time left....

At this point I'm not sure what to believe. Its only six games but I feel it could also be a continuation of last year. We didnt fill any of our holes from last year (2B, RF, and LF cause everyone knows Alou is going to miss a significant portion of the year with injury). Church hasn't been bad by any means, but I still think Milledge has been at least equal this year and he has more upside. Vinnman mentioned swagger, but apparantly swagger was the problem so we traded Milledge and made Reyes cool it?

The Mets need a new manager that has a set balls, that doesn't sit back all calm and reserve like nothing is wrong and has confidence in his starters to actually work things out in a game.
The loss of Loduca in the clubhouse is going to hurt - he may not have much left but at least he was a spark and got the team fired up.
Willie can't inspire or fire up anyone on this team - he needs to see what his starting pitchers have now before they get into a pennant race in Aug and Sept. At this rate Sosa is going to appear in 150+ games. And in todays paper he was quoted as saying he needs more from Perez. Are you kidding? You pulled him with the 8th place guy coming up - he hadn't even given up a run and has given up 8 hits all season - 8 singles. If he blows it fine but he leaves the game with a 2-0 lead and the mets lose the game 5-2 and inturn 5 pitchers used after the starter leaves.

Tartans is 100% right. What the Mets need is a supportive fan base. They have all the pieces in place, and I'll show you one million different preseason posts from fans who agreed. What has changed in the past week?
Is it the start we wanted? Of course not, but the mets will straighten the ship, its a long season!
and in terms of these "holes" people are mentioning, I don't see them. Sure Castillo is batting around 200, but one 3 for 5 game, and thats a 300 average! In the corners, can you really as for more? You have Pagan who is looking great coming out of no where, and Church who is as people have said, playing up to par with Milledge. But lets not forget, we got a 2 for 1 on the deal, So the defensive upgrade in Schneider has to be factored (as well as his 300 average right now). Delgado's range is a little off, and that play yesterday throwing ito Utley's back was inexcusable, but it finally looks like he is hitting again, if he can keep that up, watch out!
What the Mets need is some clutch hitting. That is what is missing right now, and I have ZERO doubt that it is about to pop up, any day now! The bats are alive, they just aren't getting the big hit when needed. Too many balls stopping at the warning track. Victorino robbed us of at least a couple hits yesterday.
Everyone needs to relax and show some faith in our boys!

i agree totally that it is too early to sell the farm on the Mets chances this season, but the concern is that the same frailties that cost us last year have already reared their ugly heads this year and the very fact that players are denying that the | |
