Glad KU won, but that stupid cheer or whatever it is may be the worst in college history, especially since it was made up before basketball was invinted! Great game though!

Whew, what a game.  Ive been reading posts all morning and think I finally sobered up enough to respond to these posts.  Congrats to both teams, it was all the game we could have asked for.   I think my heart stopped 4 times in that game.  We were at a KU bar in Chicago and everyone around me had their tab closed out with 2 minutes to go, little did we know we were in for some of the greatest basketball in Kansas History.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!  Best Basketball win i've ever experienced.  Orange Bowl Champs and NCAA Basketball champs, does it get much better than this?!?!

I also have to say, Ive been one of the Roy haters since he left.  It may have been for stupid and small reasons, but I seriously disliked him.   After I saw him wearing that Jayhawk sticker last night, I would be proud to shake his hand.  I've heard from UNC fans that tarheels are furious about that today.  Even though he isn't a Jayhawk anymore, he showed real class for Jayhawk nation last night by wearing that and sitting in the KU section.

Also,a  little snip it from an article on yahoo I thought was good:

Calipari tried to recapture his thoughts from the final 10 seconds of regulation. It was a religious experience.

“When Derrick went to the line, I sat there and I said, ‘Lord, if he makes these two, we’re supposed to be national champs. And if that’s your will, I’m fine with it. If he misses them, and we’re not, I’m fine with that too.’ I’m probably not supposed to say that, but that’s where I was.”

Apparently, God’s a Jayhawks fan.

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK, NATIONAL CHAMPS KU!!!

Are you kidding me?  Man, sore loser, you have no clue what you are talking about.  Under rules that are followed, Memphis should have had a technical for slamming the ball, regardless of who he was mad at.  Secondly, if you can't make free throws, you deserve to lose the game, period.  KU basically outplayed Memphis and the thug nature that appears to be part of Memphis' mystique came out in 3 instances: First, the undercutting of Brandon Rush on a layup, second, Dorsey(nevermind the battery charges) chest bump on Aldrich and finally the blatant shove by the Memphis defender late in the game on Sharon collins.  I mean, if you are going to be a "homer", don't make it obvious.  The good thing is KU came out as a class act, not acting in such a manner or retaliating, but by winning the game.  Victory could not have been sweeter!  Funny thing is, I am not even a Jayhawk fan and I can see this!

YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!!!! You apparently know very little about the game. Both of these teams were very deserving of playing in Championship game and if you had followed your team closely through the season and especially toward the end, you would have been aware that Memphis's greatest weakness is at the free throw line! That proved to be true last night. The greatst downfall however is that they have YOU for a fan!!!!!

You know, I was thinking the same thing the other day. For basketball, the Big XII could use another solid school.

It would make sense for driving time, because Colorado (in Boulder) is a huge distance away from the Texas schools.

Some conferences, I think, have teams for one sport but not for another. Big XII could keep Colorado for football and get Memphis for basketball.

But, in terms of what region people consider teams to be in, the Big XII is a conference where several of the schools' campuses exist within a two-state line: Nebraska - Iowa (NU and ISU), Kansas - Missouri (KU, KSU, Mizzou).

The Big XII could do something a bit different and put one of the Oklahomas (really unlikely) or Texas Tech in the North region.

That "stupid cheer" is widely considered the best chant in all of college sports.

I knew it was over for Memphis when Clark Kellogg picked them to win right before the game.  It must be nice to get paid to be wrong!

WOW is really all I can say.  It amazes me how sooo many ppl are still raggin on the JayHawks.

I have watched them for years, and was disappointed to see Roy Williams go, but couldn't blame him for leaving.... It was nice to see him cheerin his old school on last night.  He's a great coach one of the best.

To all you haters, and the announcers who have been raggin on KU all year, them winning last night was because of there talent, heart and there coach wouldn't let them give up.

KU wasn't talked about much all season.  Big 12 conference commentators were saying TX was the better team.  They win there conference AGAIN and go to the tourney, then it's all about how UNC is the best.  Even when we beat UNC it was about Memphis.   KU had the BEST all around team all season.  Only 3 losses all season.  They had the deepest bench, one of the best defenses in the country, and they played as a team.  Not one guy led the team, it was a team oriented team all year.  8 starters and the bench guys were pretty good as well.  (thinking of senior night)

I found it interesting during the half time show the announcers commented on how Rose was not making shots because of his stomach virus, when in reality it was KU's guards keeping him away from the basket.

KU proved last night they were the best team this season, and anyone who watched the game and loves basketball should not be hating.  It was a great game, between two great teams.  They both played their hearts out.  KU won because of their strength and experience.

Some ppl are commenting about the refs and a few bad calls in favor of KU.  Yet I can rewind and zoom in on my tv and yes there were a few bad calls but they were on both ends, and all in all the refs did a fairly good job.

Memphis is a strong team, but did not have the "clutch time" experiences that KU has had.  In the end that is what cost them the game.  A hard lesson learned... Free Throws do matter, and if you have time outs left with 10 seconds left you should use to make sure ur players know you want them to foul.  A foul would have stopped KU.

I'm glad KU pulled through, I look at there seniors and what some of them went through over the last 4 years,  and they deserved, earned and wanted this that's why they won.

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK GO KU!!!!

What an absolutely thrilling game!!!  My husband and I are both KU grads ('82 & '85).  We watched the 1988 Championship game and it was great - but this surpassed that game by FAR!  I'm so proud of how well KU played as a TEAM!  Way to go Jayhawks!  What a year KU has had this year - first winning the Orange Bowl and now this!

Our daughter attend UF, so we are now also Gator fans - but we will remain loyal KU Fans forever!  Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

To the Tennessee fan who spoke about KU's chant:

While I agree that the KU cheer can be annoying to other fans (including myself), a lot of people consider being at their arena when they go into their chant to be one of great experiences of college basketball. And coming from a Tennessee fan? WOW!! The two most annoying chants in college sports, by far, are Rocky Top and the Seminole war cheer. I hear that damn war chant weeks after we play the Seminoles, and there is nothing you can do to get it out of your head. Its like a really annoying song that repeats itself over and over again. Which coincidently brings me to Rocky Top, a very annoying song that repeats itself over and over again. Even my best friend, a UT student, agrees that it can get annoying after a while. Doesn't it go something like this: "Rocky Top, you'll always be a peice of s**t to me. Good ole Rocky Top, BOO, second in the SEC!!"

I can say that i have had the privilege as a lifelong Kansas fan growing up in Ohio to one time be in Allen Fieldhouse for that chant this past February. And while I can understand some opposing fans may dislike it, it was one of the moments in my life I will never forget

As a fan I was immediately irritated  when I read this, after a few minutes though I realized that I need not get angry or upset because it is obvious the author has never played this sport. If he ever played the game he would have known that part of the game is the management of the clock, there are times in EVERY game when fouling becomes necessary to lengthen the game either because you have no time-outs left or you need to conserve them. Fouling to extend the game has always been and will always be a necessary part of this great game.

It seems clear to me that KU won this game because of their play on the floor and their coaching. Oh yeah, Memphis much like Kansas in 2003, did not make their free throws when they needed to and they lost.

I say congratulations to a team, and a program that has consistently been there and they finally one the big one in a big way. ROCK CHALK!
