Please get over this "weak conference" tag with Memphis. We are a great team who is one game away from being one Natl. Championship less than THE GREAT KANSAS program. Don't claim royalty just because you get their more often. Check KU's record in the tourney since Self has been there. Then check out Cal's for that same time. Then you can't say anything about conference.

He will be at Oklahoma State next year unless Kansas can come up with major money to counter the offer he is getting from OSU, including a 6 mil signing bonus!

Now where could Kansas basketball generate some money? lol! Thats a joke this program brings in over twice as much as OSU and if he enjoys playing in final fours he'll stay right where he's at, but bottom line after he wins tonight i don't care if he leaves and we bring in another top 10 coach to not lose a beat. Can't keep a top 5 program down as the departure of Roy boy proves, sending him home on a beat down was all the closure i could have asked for. Go Hawks!!!!!!!!

Check KU's record in the tourney since Self has been there. Then check out Cal's for that same time. Then you can't say anything about conference. I believe they've both been to 3 elite 8's, 1 final 4, and 1 NCG in the last 5 years. Go back 7 tourneys and KU's been in 5 elite 8's, 3 final 4's, and 2 NCG's, not a bad 7 year strecth IMO. No one is saying Memphis isn't good because they play in conference USA but it's obvious that conference is weak other then Memphis and thats why they rack up so many wins every year compared to KU,UNC, UCLA,etc.....

Its close but Self is a bit better - maybe not as seasoned but better - they both came from the same coaching roots - Jayhawk Basketball - Allen Fielhouse

Both are great coaches, but Id put Self just for the fact that he has gone to different schools from mid majors to major conferences and built up each program to give a name for themselves. Its so close I could also go w/ Calapari since he is just as great with what he has done at UMass and Memphis.

To all those Memphis fans still crying about not getting enough respect, can you please stop whining all the time?? Im a neutral fan and in all the years Ive watched March Madness, Ive never heard so much complaining from fans and a coach my whole life. "Wah wah wah, no one loves us." First of all that is crock b/c espn experts and writers dont represent most of the country like you all think they do. Stop the crying and just let your team play basketball. And if Calapari wins it all this year I dont want to have to hear next year him complain about lack of respect and no one loves them to win it 2 years in a row. Seems like he always has to be the center of attention and surround himself around drama.

Hilarious! Self wins just look at the stats!!!!

Funny how everyone who picked Calipari is from Memphis and they say nothing about self. How many times do I have to read your silly comments before somone tells the truth and admitt Self runs circles around Calipari and He makes more Money too!

Nobody is saying Memphis is a bad team because they play in a bad league.  We're just pointing out that you'd probably be 35-4 or 36-3 if you played in a tougher league.  Then we wouldn't have to listen to Calipari and the boys praising themselves as world-beaters due to their record.

It's a lot easier to get up for Tennessee or Texas when you don't play teams of that caliber every night in your league.  It's just human nature to have a letdown or two during the regular season because it's such a long journey.

Memphis has some great players.  Personally, I'm tired of hearing them say how good they are and how hard it is to beat them.  KU is going to feed off that.  The fire will be stoked tonight.

I look forward to a great game.  May the best team win.

Calipari came from the Kansas roots and his Wife Graduated from good ol' KU! He sleeps with a jayhawk, how ya like that Memphis fans? Didnt have any idea did you? Not to mention if Self goes to OSU then Calipari will be inline for the KU job. And yes he would leave you in a heart beat.

Roy Williams was a decent to very good recruiter at KU until he laid down on the job waiting for the phone to ring the last 3 years he was there.  When he left the cupboard was bare.  Self came in an loaded the program up with McDonald's All Americans.  He has 5 quality starters and probably 5 other guys who could start for Memphis.  KU is flat out loaded with talent.  Self is a first rate recruiter.   You can look on the floor and up and down the bench and see that.

I coached at one time and sat in a clinic where Denny Crum was presenting.  He said that everyone one of us in the room (about 200 coaches) could do what he did, but not many of us could go out and recruit player XX (can't remember his name now but he was an All-American at Louisville).  Everyone nodded in agreement.

Put together a top notch recruiting ability, a good school with some tradition, great fans, and ability to work with and motivate young men then you will see a great coach.  Self is a great coach.  Put one of these guys one on one with a kid and his parents and the recruiting game is over if there is a spot for the kid in the program.
