I am a long time Jayhawk fan.  As such, I appreciate the tradition that is Kansas basketball.  Roy Williams helped to continue and broaden that rich basketball history.  For this, I am thankful.

Roy Williams is from Carolina, his family is from there, he went to school and played basketball there, and his father figure (Dean Smith) twice asked him to return to Tobacco Road and help the Tar Heels.  I can understand all the reasons he left.  At the time, I wish he would not have.  But, I can recognize the ties that pulled him East.  I am not mad at him for leaving.

I lost respect for Williams, however, for two series of comments he made after announcing that he was the next coach of North Carolina.  First, he said he could not understand the animosity of Kansas fans because "he never said he would be there forever."  To the contrary, the quotes are still searchable.  He directly and succinctly said that the Kansas coaching job was the last he'd ever have.  He could have been honest and said the factors listed above caused him to change his mind.  He took the low road and claimed he never said he would retire from KU.  Second, he got on national T.V. and said that his primary disappointment was never getting to coach kids like David Padgett and Omar Wilkes.  He said that kids should be allowed to transfer without penalty when a coach leaves.  This was a huge slap in the face to the current players he had coached and left behind - after recruiting them in part by saying he would be their coach while they played at Kansas.  This was also nothing but a blatant attempt to get those recruits to break their commitment to KU and come to North Carolina.

Thus, I am thankful for Coach Williams' contributions to KU Basketball.  They are many.  I understand the reasons he left.  Yet, I lost respect for him in the manner in which he felt compelled to explain himself.

i agree with everything you just said.  i dont hate roy because he left, i hate him because of the way he left which you touched on perfectly.  i think you see the roy hatred more in the high school and college kids like myself because he was the first KU coach any of us had ever seen and when he said he was staying it made us happy and when he left it pissed us off.

i appreciate everything Roy did in 15 years, in fact he was hired on my parents wedding day but come saturday it comes down to KU vs. NC, Roy vs. Bill, Sasha vs Tyler, Russell vs. Ty, etc. etc.

why are you even talking about this.  If it wasn't for KU no one would know who roy williams or any UNC coach is.  dean smith was coached by Phog Allen who took over for Dr. Naismith and without him there is no basketball.  face it you know nothing about our hatred twards Roy, if KU didnt take a chance on him he wouldnt even be at UNC, before KU if you asked anyone who he was they would have said "roy who??".

so get ready for today, because people always say that KU chokes in the big game.  well roy was there for 15 years of those chokes and never won a title, and they same results will come today, Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

As far as I know Roy got himself a championship, and has been in 4 other championship games.  And whats with your rambling about there would not even be a unc if it weren't for KU what are you retarded?  I like how you tried to use all the History references to make your self look smart.  GayUkid123 get off the message board

his title at unc was only half of his players, the other half were Daugherty players.  and Unc's program wouldn't be good if it wasnt for KU because any good thing in UNC basketball came from KU (with the exception of MJ).
