Well, the season is young, but it sure looks familiar so far doesn't it?

I love the Dodgers pitching (as I do every year) and it will be even better when Kershaw joins the club. But I just get so tired every year having to endure such a horrible offense. Just once I would love to see my favorite team throw a lineup out that could actually do some damage and be fun to watch. Last year I complained endlessly that they refused to trade any of their prospects for a proven slugger. So now once again we are left hoping that these prospects actually amount to something. And once again in the off-season instead of going after the elite hitters of the game like Alex Rodriguez or Miguel Cabrera they throw money at a second tier player on the decline in Andruw Jones. How many times must we see this same tired act? Shawn Green, Jeff Kent, Nomar Garciappara,  Luis Gonzalez, Juan Pierre, Andruw Jones... It's as if the only free agent pickups they are willing to sign are washed up has-beens.

And for all of you continuing to hang your hopes on guys like Ethier, Kemp, Loney & LaRoche go ahead and wake me up once they actually show they have the ability to do more than slap an ocassional single to the opposite field and then run themselves out of the inning with stupid baserunning mistakes. For all the so-called talent this supposed great group of prospects bring to the table it sure doesn't translate into many runs. I'm sick of the small ball game the Dodgers always play. Sure, it worked for them in '88, but unless they plan on capturing magic in a bottle again they aren't going anywhere. Last I checked Hershiser was retired.

Until the Dodgers ever decide that they want to have a big boy offense with real sluggers instead of a bunch of slap-happy weaklings they will never be a contender. In my lifetime I would LOVE for them to just once go out and get an elite bonafide slugger with some pop. But it's never happened before so there is no reason to think it will in the future. Name the last great Dodger slugger. Mike Piazza? Pedro Guerrero? Duke Snider? Depending on how elite a slugger you are referring to the answer would be one of these players or never. I'll go with Duke Snider as the last great Dodger slugger. So, since it's been 50 years I think we're due for another. But I'm sure they will just try to win it with pitching. That doesn't work anymore. You have to have a great offense too. And the Dodgers once again don't even come close.

I guess the only exciting baseball really does just exist in Boston or New York.

Yeah....cuz look how all those proven bonafide hitters did against the Padres....0 runs against Peavy and 1 run against Young. The reality is no matter who we throw out their, the NL West is the deepest pitching division in baseball with big ball parks. Even the team that is expected to finish last, Giants, throw Zito/Cain/Lincenum/Lowry....Any idea how many teams would love to have that rotation...Answer: Any team outside the NL West. I don't think you should include Kent into that list of has beens we signed. He had been great for us ever since we signed him. Jones is taking a lot of walks...that is a good sign. Means he is seeing the ball well....So give him some time. This is really just year 2 for Kemp,Loney, and Either....relax...they will hit.

Yes we would all love to see more runs...but if you consider exciting baseball to be 12-10 games then you are cheering for the wrong team. Too me.....exciting babseball will always be the 2-1 games where every at bat matters and where pitching rules. I am a purest in that sense. The reality is most teams can not boast a solid lineup like we can 1-8 and although it lacks power...they are all hitters. Rather have our lineup than a team that is strong 1-4 and then tosses out a bunch of players that can't hit. Last night was a disgusting game..but I guarantee it won't be the last one. The life of the NL West.

After three games, it amazing your insight, and knowledge of how the season will turn out. Maybe it's just your same old ramblings from last year to this year, or maybe its just misplaced frustration.  I choose the latter, because you sometimes have meaningful things to say.  This time, it just wasn't very good.  You just need to chill, it's a long season.

If Jones, doesnt hit 25+ home runs, or Kent, Kemp, Ethier, and Martin dont have more than 20, then you will be vindicated, but they will and you won't be.

We all want a championship, but 4 losing records in 20 years, I think they give us a lot of hope from year to year.  This year is no exception.  There is a reason the other teams want the young prospects LA has, it becasue they can play, not because they cant.  It seems that after three games of this season you think you know better than the best guys with eyes in basaeball.   You however do not.

Oh how soon people forget what Shawn Green really did in LA...

24 HR & 99 RBI in his first year switching to the NL, then 49 & 42 HR's the next two years...an injury in 03 limited his power to just 19 HR's & then in his last season he hit 28.  He averaged 32 HR's & 101 RBI over his 5 years in LA.

I don't know what your definition of slugger is...maybe a 40+ HR season?  Piazza, Sheffield, Green, Beltre all had 40 HR seasons.

My thoughts exactly....Let's not forget Mondesi and Karros either.

I agree we need sluggers, but DO NOT GIVE UP PROSPECTS TO DO IT! I am sick of feeding otehr teams' futures for a apthetic has-been that gives us one or two years. ENOUGH! I am sick of that mind set. Trade prospect pitchers for prospect hitters, OK, that may help, because our scots seem to be able to find more hot young pitching. If you want to gamble on anything, gamble there. But not some late 20's, 30-something aged former star in a trade. Free agency, OK. Trade for that, NO WAY. That is my thoughts.

Okay so you guys wish we traded for Miguel Cabrera? It would have only costed Kemp, Kershaw, Billingsly and Broxton, and then 126 million for 8 years for an overwieght guy who cant play defense

How about Santana? Only Kershaw, Kemp, Loney, Broxton and more plus 150+ million for a guy who has been on a decline, and will be hurt within a year or two

Or how about Texeria? They wanted Kemp, Kershaw, and Loney.

FA? You rather have spent 90 mil on Hunter? Or you like Rowand? Or let me guess....you wish JD Drew hadnt opted out.

We got Andruw Jones, for 2 years. He will hit 30 homers this year, and thats what we need.

You guys look at Boston and wish we were like them with all that fire power. And ya that would be great....but all those guys are making tons of money, locked in long term. What do you think is going to happen when they get old? Look no farther than the Yankees.

Money is spent to cover and hide bad signigns, trade away all the young talent and get aging superstar, then extentions to keep this ego's happy, and then more money to hide bad deals.

The Dodgers finally have it right. Everyone screamed to let the kids play. Now after 3 games you are impatient as all h ell. No wonder why we havent won in 20 years

I'd take pitching, defense and clutch hitting any day. Boston's offense is great, but it also feasts on some very ragged #3-5 pitchers (even some ragged #2) within their division. The Spankees always have a great offense, but look what happens when they run up against a good #1-2 in the playoffs. Even the '08 Tigers offense wouldn't be picked to score 900+ runs with an NL West schedule. We have a very balanced team. Miguel would be nice, but not even Furcal has enough range to save that crucial run each divisional series. At least Jones is a perenial gold glove with some pop.

Karros and Green were 2 of my favorite power hitter's in LA. That homer streak Green had was awesome. Karros was consistently around 30. Sheff...love him or hate him had one of the fastest bats ever.
