So in an effort to not be totally negative on the Giants for all 162 games this year, I thought I would try to bring up a positive. I do have to give credit to the Giants brass for cutting the likes of Kline and keeping Merkin. Albeit Merkin was out of options, so I suppose their hand was forced somewhat.

Merkin certainly looked like the stud that he was always supposed to be for two innings last night. It was a beautiful thing to see him hit 96mph on the gun last night (Krukow also mention that he thought the gun was slow last night!) and strike out the side in the first inning. Psst, Sabean think trade.

To continue my upbeat attitude, it was certainly nice to see the kids in the game. Is it a coincidence that when Valez, Davis and Lewis the Giants eeeked out a win. OK, it probably is, considering they went for a combined 2 for 8 and left seven men on base. But it still helps this fans attitude and makes the game much more watchable and enjoyable.

All i can say is Merkin Valdez has looked great and should not have an earned run charged against him as in the first game Ray Durham committed an error but wasn't charged.  The Giants should have a strong pen with Tyler Walker, Merkin Valdez, and Brian Wilson for the 7th, 8th, and 9th.  If our pitching from starters to the pen can hold up we can win the close games and that is what will keep our team from lossing 100 this year.

Im glad to see Merkin doing well. They had such high hopes for him back in 04/05. I remeber him coming up the same time with came and being regarded as one of our top prsopects. Unfortunately injuries have side tracked his career. But if this kid can stay healthy he can become a nasty setup man and give us a great 1-2 punch witn Wilson to close the door on teams. We have some good young arms in the pen with Wislon, Valdez and Threets. Its should be fun to watch.
