wrbjr22 - for all grossman's faults, of which there are several. throwing deep is NOT among them.

back to Hester - it's very likely/probable that he breaks the NFL career mark for return TDs next year - in only his 3rd year (he needs 2 to tie it, 3 to break it)!!!  the only sports figure I can think of who may have broken a career record so early in their career was Babe Ruth and the HR record (ignoring the years when he was just a pitcher).

can anyone think of any other similar career records, or does Hester's assumed accomplishment next year stand that far apart?

Excellent Point 96846!!!!!  I think you should start a new post regarding Hester's place in history!!!!

WHO IN THE HECK IS GOING TO THROW THE BALL DEEP TO HIM?  We would have to have a QB first. Please help me fell better about Grossman.

wrbjr22, like 96846 said, Rex Grossman can DEFINITELY throw the deep ball. One observation I made was that Devin Hester was barely on the field when Grossman was QB. IMO, that falls on the coaching staff to not put him in the games. Here, you have a kid that throws a pretty accurate deep ball, and another one who has amazing speed. Why not chuck that sucker DEEP!?!

Also, most of the routes he would run while Grossmasn was at QB were for small screen passes where he would get maybe a yard or two. I think that if he is going to throw to Hester, it's got to be deep! In the game against the Giants last season, they almost pulled it off, but Hester dropped that pass.

Here is another observation I made. Did anybody else notice that Devin Hester made some pretty difficult catches...well difficult for an amateur. A lot of his catches were in the middle of the field where he was getting hit quite often. Now, you add in some Grossbombs and that could be a pretty good sign that Hester can be a solid wide receiver or better in this league.

Chi-town,

For the list of unofficial times, you listed Willis McGahee's time from his pro day at 4.28 or somehthing.  But didn't he blow out his knee his last collegiate game? I remember him getting drafted in the 1st round while still being injured.  Surely he didn't run a 4.28 with a ripped knee!  Even after his recovery I'd imagine it'd be hard to run a 4.28.

I'm gonna assume it was timed at a practice or something before the injury.

Speaking of fast players, you know that Garrett Wolfe ran a 4.39 at the 2007 combine? Or maybe it was his pro day, don't remember, but he's not only quick, but fast as well.

Hester is probably the fastest and most explosive player in the open field that I have ever seen in the NFL.

I thinks its more vision and quickness, than pure speed.
