First, I do understand fans frustration with Roy b/c what he did was bound to step on a lot of people's toes.  That being said, KU fans who feel they "hate" Roy or despise UNC should really just step back and think about the overall situation.

Roy was born in North Carolina, Played JV basketball at UNC, received his first coaching job (high school bball) in NC, and was an assistant coach at UNC (and is said to have played a huge part in recruiting MJ).

When Roy left for Kansas it was another UNC product in Larry Brown that caused the job to be open in the first place.  Given Brown helped and hurt Kansas in that he won coach of the year and a national championship at Kansas, but later hurt them due to NCAA recruiting violations.  Still, Kansas got UNC product Brown, and then at Dean Smith's recommendation, hired UNC product Roy Williams.  While I'm sure KU was great for Roy, you cannot say you don't see how the man was not going to one day leave for UNC, regardless of what he said at times.  UNC is one of the best jobs in the country, and a chance to be an icon at your alma mater (and your birthplace no less) was just too good of an opportunity for ANYONE to pass up.

He gave you 15 years of great KU basketball, and for that you should lay off the guy a little and move on.  KU is a great bball school and will be that way for a long time, but I think it's unfair to throw Roy under the bus for making a decision I feel a lot of people would have made.

Also, those who hate Roy with a passion need to realize that the intense passion they feel for KU as fans and alums, and thus the hatred for Roy, shows how hard it was for Roy to say no to a school that was the same feeling for him.

I think the word hate is strong... and is confused with felling dissapointed.  I was upset that Roy left after signing a "lifetime" contract at Kansas... after saying no to UNC two years earlier.  But, gotta get over it.  Playing against him Saturday is going to be tough for a lot of Kansas fans.  Yes, he gave us 15 amazing years and tons of great memories.  Coach Self also has done a great job and Kansas fans need to be happy that they have such a fine coaching history!  ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!

Dude, why do you feel the need to tell other people how they should or should not feel?  What difference does it make to you or UNC whether KU people "let it go" or still hold a grudge about Roy lying to the entire Jayhawk nation in 2000 when he said "I'm Stayin'"?

I would argue that most of us don't harbor hate for Roy (and are grateful for his contributions to KU), any bitterness that is there is held for Dean and your schools absolutely horrible timing in the canning of Coach Doh.  Your telling me you guys could not have waited 1 freakin' week to push Coach Doh out the door???  Instead UNC/Dean introduce this "distraction" during our 2003 trip to the Final 4.  You surely can't disagree that it was piss poor timing on UNC's part???

Additionally, you assume that just because Roi is a UNC alum that means folks should have expected him to return there?  Thats ridiculous.  Did Dean come back home when we offered him the KU job before Ted Owens?  No.  Why?  Because he had already begun establishing his legacy at UNC.  If Roi stayed at KU he would have had buildings named after him.  Yet now by going back to UNC, he will always be considered no better than the 2nd greatest coach in UNC history.

I was over "Ol Roy" leaving Kansas the day after he announce he was going to North Carolina.  It's home for him just like Kansas is home for me.  He did what he had to do.  Now five years later it's more the media that is keeping this thing alive.   There's always going to be those people who don't like him or are mad at him for leaving but if anyone thinks that's the majority of KU fans, you seriously are kidding yourself.

I for one am very happy to have Bill Self as our head coach and if someone asked me who I want coaching my team?  Bill Self all the way.  Williams was great for the University but that time has come and gone, and it was simply time to move on for me.........five years ago.

One thing I know 90% of all Tard Heels fans did not want to see KU in the final four and 99% of KU fans wanted to see Tard Hills. Wonder why that is?

You shouldn't believe everything you read in the press.   Most people are over it, it is articles like this and comments by you that keep dredging it up.   Do you think scolding  Jayhawk fans is going to do anything but piss us off?

Roy obviously feels guilty or it wouldn't bother him so much.  He probably should have left the first time if he was going to leave.  That is what he hurts so much about.   He learned that lesson the hard way.

The drama was getting old before Roy left and it is getting old now.  It will hopefully all go away if we beat Tarheels this Saturday.  If Tarheels beat us, then the stuff will continue to hang around.

I grew up in same town Dean grew up in, his best friends (my parents friends) are still ticked at him, for dragging Roy back. (they are 70 to 80 years old)  That is where the anger is.   He gave us a coach then yanked him back.

KU will always have great coaches, it is that kind of program.  Go back to your Wine and Cheese.

ROCK CHALK

90% huh? That is a pretty bold statement considering there are 750,000 alumni, 26,000 students not to mention all the fans that don't have any direct connection to Carolina. Man you must know A LOT of people. What did you do, take a poll?

I for one am thankful that Roy Williams came back to his alma mater. I am thankful that KU took a chance hiring Roy Williams in 1988 and they were really good to him. Kansas did a lot for Roy but he also did a lot for them but North Carolina is his home.

This Tar Heel fan was actually more worried about facing Davidson than Kansas. Saturdays game will be a great game with two pretty evenly matched teams

GO HEELS!!!!!!!!!

Look, many of us really dislike Roy for what he did and moreover, how it was handled.  The bigger issue is Dean Smith.  He is the real Jacka$$ in this situation.  He is the one who did not take the opportunity to come back home to Kansas, but then pressured Williams to do just what he did not do.  As far as I am concerned neither one is welcome back in the state and they probably do not want to come anyway.

When Dean came back a couple years ago he received a resounding boo
