This story was on foxsports.com today

Now that Sean Sutton has been fired, the speculation will begin on whether the big bucks of Oklahoma State booster Boone Pickens can lure Kansas coach Bill Self or Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie to Stillwater.

Self is an alum, but it would be difficult to imagine a scenario in which he would leave Lawrence – even for the $3 million or so per season that Pickens could toss around. Gillispie, one of Self’s closest friends, has spent just one season at Kentucky.

Gillispie is one of the most difficult coaches in the industry to get a read on, so it’s pure speculation whether he would leave Lexington. However, one thing is clear: Gillispie prefers to be out of the limelight – and he’d have that opportunity in Stillwater.
I was reading and saw this. I hope that Bill self would not take this job as I think that he is a great head coach and love what he is doing in Kansas.

I don't think that Self would leave KU right now to take this job.  I saw on a TV interview where someone asked him that question and he quickly dismissed it as not even being an option.  Of course Roy said something similar a few years before he left but my gut tell me that Self has no plans of leaving KU any time soon.

Deja fricking vu.

"I could give a sh*t about North Carolina right now"...10 days later...

"I am pleased to accept the North Carolina Head Coaching position"

If Self does leave, hire Manning. He is alum and no one will be able to lure him away.

Coach Self isn't going anywhere. Even T. Boone Pickens couldn't draw him away from KU. There's several reasons for this.

a) Prestige, while OSU wouldn't be like moving to Missouri State or some other crap school, they just don't have the type of atmosphere that KU has, and never will.

b) The hassle, OSU is going to be a major rebuilding effort, Kansas is now Bill's team, and he can't recruit to OSU like he can here.

c) The money, and I know about Pickens' offer to make him the highest paid coach in CBB, but, he won't have the opportunity for "other" compensation such as endorsement deals coming from a school like OSU, as opposed to KU, that $3million that OSU is reportedly wanting to offer him is probably less than he makes here, although there is no easy way to tell.

All in all I'd say it's a pretty slim bet that he'd even consider taking the OSU job.

I completely agree alecraenos. That is scary to think the same exact thing happened 5 years ago.  He would be insane to leave Kansas and take a job at Oklahoma St. Talk about a downgrade. If he does I as well say bring on Manning. Don't think it will come to that though.

I don't think Coach Self is going anywhere...at least not now anyway. I could see him going to the NBA someday but not to another school. The Kansas job is one of the top 3-4 coaching jobs in America. Not only that, if he stays at Kansas for a long period of time, it is conceivable that he could be considered one of the best college coaches ever when he retires. You would have to assume that he would reach numerous final four's and perhaps win a couple of championships if he stays at Kansas. That prestige is worth more than what Pickens and Pistol Pete can offer him at OSU.

I for one am a huge fan of Coach Self and we could not have asked for a better coach. That includes Coach Williams.

I basically tend to agree, I don't think we will see Bill Self head south, for many of the reasons already mentioned.

And I think that Danny Manning would be the ideal replacement if that should come to pass. I think his influence on the improved play this season of Kaun, Arthur, and Jackson is evident. Can't wait to see him bring Cole Aldrich around for next season.

The only other name that comes quickly to mind would be KU Alum, Lawrence native, Mark Turgeon. His debut season in the Big 12 was less than sensational at Tex A & M, but he did have some good years at Wichita State.

As I said, hope we don't have to consider replacing Self.

Go JAWKHAWKS ! ! !

1. Bill Self gets paid $1.3 million at Kansas

2. Oklahoma State will offer him $4 million ($40 million for 10 years)

3. PLUS...if he stays for 10 years, they will give him a $10 million bonus.  That would equate to $5 per year....more than ANY college basketball or football coach.

4. Bill was born in Oklahoma.  Him and wife were students together at OSU.  He has 2 degrees from there.  He played there.  He coached there.  He still has family & friends there.

5. He already won a National Championship at Kansas...what more can he gain from KU?

What would you do?

hey Justin Jayhawker, I do agree with you that Self is probably not going to leave Kansas, try to look at it from another perspective. - Because OSU has done so bad the past couple years, some coaches would see it as an opportunity to build a program up from the pit... Self has reached his peak at Kansas, now he has a chance to do what he has done at Kansas. If you take away money issues, it is very possible that Self would take it if he has a big enough passion for coaching. To me if I was a basketball coach i would definitely do it. Think about Eddie Sutton and all he did at OSU and now he has his name on the Court and will be remembered as one of the best Coaches in the Country. Just a though, still very unlikely Self will leave Kansas.

Everyone keeps saying that money talks and that is all that will appeal to Bill.  All I can say is that we won that game last night because of his quality coaching and the way he motivated his players.  I think that his understa
