great start Rays fans....after a rocky first inning shields settled down and pitched very well....his walk total was up...but all and all 7 strong innings....aki looked very good at second...... and bartlett was terrific at short...not to mention productive with the bat.....and Dioner Navarro with a big day at the plate.....the defense looked excellent with the only gaff being the potential last out by wheeler......hinske hit one out and upton had a clutch two run single with the bases loaded.....great start to the season....long way to go though.

Do you think that theres any chance in the world that they could make it to the playoffs????? From the way they played and showed how much they care about winning and the team itself, showed some hope for them

I agree t-town, and great post BUCCS, I wrote something similar to it before I even read your post so my bad if it seems like we said a lot of similar things, and good points with Bartlett, the guy is a good bottom of the lineup hitter and seems like a very good fielder which is obviousley important for a SS. I do not expect a playoff birth this year, obviousley I would like one but I doubt it will happen, especially in this division. It would be nice to maybe be playing for something in August and even into the beginning of September instead of just being that "good spoiler team." We may have been a good spoiler team, but honestly I am extremely sick of being that spoiler team (as much as I love to beat the Yanks coming down the stretch), I am hoping for a 75+ win season, the only way I see this team getting to be in playoff contention would be if the team stayed healthy, because if either Kaz or Shields goes down for a long time we are in trouble.

There is always a possibility to make the playsoffs, it is difficult with the competition in the East and the big teams in the Central, but it is a possibility. As long as the Rays play like they did today then everything looks good in the future and there is the possibility of adding Evan Longoria to the team which would make it better considering his upside, but all in all the Rays finished the spring good and picked up right where they left off. Navarro had a big day offensively which is real good considering the slump he was in for much of last year and the Rays made some great quality pick ups in Bartlett and Hinske not to mention Aybar all of them had key role today and if they continue producing its going to be a great season.

Buccs.

GREAT post!!! I love it...I see Shields winning 20 this year the way he pitched in the opening day game. The Rays looked great at the gun, and I believe they can keep up the pace with no injuries.

When Kaz come back soon, I can see a double barrel shotgun with James. The Rays look like they finally got it together. With the trades so far, they all look good and should benefit the overall performance. How bout Garza coming up?! as #2... I can't wait to see what he has...what bout the rest of the starters? What do you think they can do this year to keep the Rays in the thick?

Let's hear it for the Ray's you guys!!! They are in first place!!!

lets not put them in the playoffs just yet....i want soooo badly for that to be the case but i still think we are a year away from being a serious threat to the Yankees or Red Sox....that being said i wouldnt rule it out alltogether....things would certainly have to break the Rays way for it to happen.....im just hoping for an 80 win season....that would certainly be a step in the right direction....anything more than that is just gravy....
