Any front office plan that "begins with Cerrato" ends in disaster.  Ask the 49ers how well that worked out for them.  This is the same VinnyC who ran them into salary cap hell, and he's doing it again in DC.  You need to get talent in every round of the draft, VinnyC has never shown that ability.  You can only keep renegotiating contracts for so long before it catches up to you.
And if you think Richie Rich didn't run his trading card purchases (aka failed free agent signings) by Vinny the Yes Man, then I have some treeless Potomac-front property to sell you.

You are right on.  I've been looking for that hole in his back the entire time he's been in DC.  That's why they changed the spelling to "Vintriloquist" dummy....bouncing on Danny Boy's knee.

Does Judge get paid for this?, or is he just angling for a back-page interview?

really. to suggest cerrato had nothing to do with running the Redskins into salary cap is idiotic.

cerrato has been the defacto talent evaluator since turner left and his performance, while not a total disaster,  has been underwhelming to say the least.

Yeah..I don't know how anyone who knows anything about football can have any drop of confidence in this guy and Snyder.   They have turned my beloved Redskins into the, 'gulp'...Cardinals.  We have one, maybe two years before the rebuilding process starts again...that's when the offensive line will be old and decrepit and Philip Daniels will have finally disintegrated from age.

If I had one wish it would be for all the bandwagon jumping idiots out there to give Zorn and Cerrato a chance before proclaiming how bad their decision making is.  When Snyder first came to DC he did try to buy a superbowl and he did make some idiotic decisions.  Spurrier was a bad idea also.  But in recent years the skins have gotten good players and done good things.  We have made the playoffs two out of the last three years, but all anyone can say is "Snyder is an idiot, Cerrato is a yes man.  By the way, we are just fine in terms of managing the salary cap.  We are 8.5mil under right now.  But all I see is idiots saying "the skins are in cap trouble".  I'd like someone to give me just one example of a player that we wanted to keep but couldn't because of cap room in the past five years.  Or a player we wanted in free agency but didn't have enough money to sign.  Snyder has made dumb decisions.  Because of that he is not allowed to be anything other than the idiot owner, regardless of what he may do in the future.

woah skinheels...  there's a HUGE difference between being fine with the salary cap & being 8.5M under.  This team was what 25-30M over the cap a couple months ago.  How do they get below the cap?  The same way they have for the past 5 years: they convert the remaining money owed to their high-priced & aging players to signing bonuses on new long-term contracts.  That lets them "theoretically" spread that money over the life of the new contract.  There WILL come a time when they will need to let those players go & that my friend is the trap in the cap maneuvering.  All the money owed will be charged against the cap in the year following their release.
As for your contention that the Skins never missed on anyone due to the cap - do you really think they WANTED Brunell the past 2 years?  Nope!  But they could not cut him or they would have taken it in the bunny-hole.  Who did they miss out on because of it?  Dunno, but I'd bet there were 10 F/As they'd have looked long & hard at.  And Brunnel's contract is not the only one that is constricting the team.  They've been forced to renegotiate so many contracts that it's ridiculous.  No other, let me say that again - NO OTHER team in the league is in this situation every year.  What does that tell you??  The Pats, Colts, Chargers, god-forsaken Cowboys, all serious contenders year after year are not in this situation.  Think maybe there is a lesson to be learned by the great football mind that is VinnyC???

oh, and do you think the Skins couldn't use/want Samuel or Asamugha at CB?  Can't afford them.  Why??  Salary cap.  So instead we get to watch Smooty give his all, which is not what it used to be unfortunately.  And we get to watch Carlos Rogers underperform yet again.  YAY !

It was Cerrato who urged owner Daniel Snyder to avoid the free-agent frenzy? Oh please! Redskins entered the off-season a little more than $20 million dollars over the 2008 Salary Cap limit. With cuts and renegotiated contracts, the Skins have a whopping 3.25 million to play with to sign free-agents and upcoming draft picks!

Cerrato was as responsible for the 49ers success as Al Gore was responsible for inventing the internet. Once again Snyder will trade away draft picks (that he can't afford to sign) for aged, over-the-hill, has been defensive players and/or offensive linemen. You know the drill.
