Neitzel had another off game against Temple yesterday and I'm tired of hearing all the critics saying that we can't win unless Neitzel shoots the way he did in the Big Ten tournament.
Now don't get me wrong I love watching Neitzel lighting it up and it's a big part to our team but I've noticed throughout the season that if Neitzel doesn't play well then Raymar Morgan steps up.
That is why I believe Raymar Morgan can lead us past Pitt and farther into the tournament.
Anybody elses opinion?
Can Morgan take control and lead our Spartans if Neitzel is having an off tourny?

Spartan 4,
You are absolutely right Raymar was always leading the way through Texas, BYU, and almost UCLA Drew was not sharp at the time. He needs to lead and If Drew Is Hot It could be bad news for the Panthers. Suton also needs to show some fortitude and start mixing it up with the other team's big men.
Go Green !!! Go White !!! Beat the Panthers!!!

If they both have ON games, we can go pretty far. I'm waiting for that to happen.

In the games we've lost is when Raymar and Neitzel faded. But I don't think that Neitzel faded yesterday. Yea, he didn't shoot well but he played a hell of a game while being foul trouble. It was reminded me a little of Cleaves, like he was an extension of Izzo on the floor. I also think that Naymick played out of his mind yesterday. I hope he can keep that up.

It could be bad news for Pittsburgh if Neitzel, Morgan, and Lucas all have solid games and their role players contribute. It's a tall order but it can be done! Time for the team to step up to the challenge.

I've heard a lot of the "Neitzel is the only good part of MSU" talk, especially with the tourney under way. I'm sorry critics, but if you look at our games this year, Neitzel didn't live up to his expectations. That's not to say he didn't do well, but he should've done better. Now, if Neitzel is MSU, then why did we end up with the record we did (especially the beginning of conference play)? I love Drew, but Morgan is my favorite current player (with Lucas easily taking 2nd next year).

And a small bit of information to back up Morgan:
Averaging 14.5 ppg, 15.6 ppg where Neitzel scored in single digits (including scoring 31 of MSU's 65 against Minnesota).

Good posts everyone no love for Raymar.
But in order to beat Pitt I think Neitzel AND Morgan will have to have good games. That kind of showed in the Wisconsin game. Neitzel was there but Morgan was in foul trouble and didn't contribute all that much. Man how dangerous this team would be if they could both play great on the SAME day.
Go State!! Beat the Panthers!!!
THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!

I know exactly what you're talking about with all the critics pointing out how MSU is doomed without Drew. But even though we had a pretty easy win on Thursday and he played bad, I don't think we should take it for granted. If Drew can't get back on track, we should see a pretty steep road to climb. It's more vital for Nietzel to have a good game than it is for Raymar. I think if Drew puts up 20 and Raymar puts up 8, we can still have success. But vice versa, I'm not as sure. How about to sleep well at night, we just assume they both go off for 15+? Sounds good to me :) Go Green!

State needs everyone, the starters and all of the bench, to have top games for the next 5 games.
Depending on 1 or 2 or 3 or even 4 to win is a mistake. THE WHOLE TEAM has to play their "A" games.
What I saw yesterday was Temple keying on Neitzel and Neitzel running the diversions. Good strategy. Neitzel does not have to bang home the threes to have a serious impact on the game, especially when everyone is targetting him. Izzo took advantage of this and State controlled the game. Good coaching. Good execution.
18 is too many fouls (+6), 12 turnovers is respectable (+1), 33 rebounds is good (+6.), 2 blocks (+0), 4 steals (-3) could be better, 19 assists is good (+6), shooting percentage is normal, free throw percentage was high (yea!), negating Neitzel's 1 for 8 in 3-fers, the team shot normal for 3 pointers.
The head to head based ONLY on the first round games:
