I think it was great to see Sixers' fans give Iverson a big ovation and some recognition tonight on his return to Philly. Say what you want about the guy off the court - he goes hard at game time. That said, his center court kiss and Mo Cheeks' big hug were a bit over the top on his part.
Oh yeah, there was a game tonight too. The Sixers are back at .500 with Washington and Toronto in their sites. Did anyone imagine that three months ago! Nice effort tonight.

I am starting to think the Sixers are the eastern conference version of the Rockets.
Aren't they like a very quiet 18-4 versus Houstons 22-2...something close...
They are a team that looks like a lottery team in terms of name recognition but plays like a playoff team.
But the Sixers are taking down some serious big names in Detroit, San Antonio, Phoenix, and Denver along the way in their hot streak.
Congrats!

i live in the philly area and i love the sixers and every other team philly has and iversons been my fav player ever since he was drafted. it was amazing how my fellow sixers' fans embraced him tonight, usually were known for being very rude and ignorant but we still love ai and always will. he will retire a sixer, he still loves philly. i hope the Nuggets make the playoffs and make a serious push to the finals to get our boy a ring that he deserves.
go sixers/nuggets

One of the greatest moments from the night was the Iverson interview after the game… You’ll very rarely catch him that emotional. The fans of Philadelphia were a class act, and the game was fun to watch. The Sixers are playing their tails off right now, I can’t believe they have a shot at sneaking up to the five seed with only a few more wins.

As for the Nuggets… Things are incredibly shaky. They needed this game tonight, as they will need every game from here on out. They’re two and a half games back from the Warriors, who took care of the Clippers tonight. It’s not a good situation to have that much talent and miss the playoffs, wonder what will happen this offseason?

I for one have always been critical of Allen Iverson and never really gave him a fair chance because i don't really understand the "thug" mentality and the whole hip-hop image that goes along with it. He changed that for me yesterday. I watched his pre-game new conference, the first half of the game, and heard clips of the post-game news conference. I didn't hear an immature "thug" in those news conferences. I heard a 32 year old MAN who lived up to his mistakes, who didn't try to make excuses for anything, and totally changed his image in my eyes and hopefully to many in the Philly area who didn't like him as a person. I found a new respect for him and hope he retires as a 76er. I really thought that everything he did and said was genuine and from the heart. That's all i ask of ANY person.

See that's the misconception of Philly fans. They will boo lack of effort at the drop of a hat, but Allen never did that. To players that gave 110% every night and truly got Philadelphia, they will be idolized and praised no matter where they go and what they do. Guys like A.I., Rod Brind'Amour and Reggie White will always be looked favorably upon, whereas other superstars of their time and in their sport like Ricky Watters, Eric Lindros and Dick Allen will be frowned upon. Guys who didn't get it were chased out of town and the rest of the country wondered why. It's a big blue collar town and winning is just about second to bleeding effort.
I can think of only one or two guys that didn't get it at the time, but later came around after they left and embraced the city and fans. Mike Schmidt and Charles Barkley. Mike was icy with the fans and media to say the least when he played, but has since sealed himself as a fan favorite. Charles is still Charles and rips the city now and then, but thats him. He also keeps a home and many friends in Philly and regularly makes public appearances. He's a ball buster. We get it.

I agree with most of what you say, especially about how the city embraces "effort". But please leave Reggie White and Barkley out of it. I'll always remember Reggie crying when viewing the thousands that were at the Plaza begging Braman to re-sign him. Then Reggie signing with the Packers and saying that "God told him to go to Green Bay". Okay Go. I should blame Barman more, he was a piece of s..., but Reggie sold out in my opinion. And Barkley, PLEASE!!!!! The biggest racist of all. He was, is and always will be, a piece of garbage. A good rebounder, but still a piece of garbage.
