Having graduated from Davidson in 1999, I saw some pretty decent squads in my time there. However, most games saw the arena 1/4 full and grabbing any seat you wanted was pretty standard. On February 9, 2008, I returned to Belk Arena for my first home game in 8 years. What I saw...was a transformation. The arena was packed with screaming fans, students filled the upper corner of the stands, bathed in black shirts, Curry drilled his first 5 three pointers of the game, and Davidson coasted to a 81-56 victory in front of the largest crowd in Belk history. You built this Bob McKillop...thank you.
My favourite moment in my years as a Zag, happens to be a loss. Huh?
I know of all of the magical upsets, and Cinderella runs from my Bulldogs my favourite moment was a loss to #2 seed Arizona in double overtime. Blake Stepp's 25 points almost led the Bulldogs to another great upset, and although they couldn't pull it out in the end, the 96-95 OT loss to AU cemented Gonzaga as THE greatest underdog in college hoops.

I like both your essays. They show that you are both fans, proud of your teams, and live by them in good times and bad. In today's day and age, there are far too many fans who jump bandwagons merely to be a part of a winner. That is an aspect of college basketball that makes it so enjoyable. The players do not play for money, they play for pride, and that makes those who follow their teams even more proud to say, I'm a fan.

By the way, my team is the Portland State Vikings, a 1st time entry into the March Madness tournament! Talk about a serious conflict of interest; I am predicting the Jayhawks to go all the way, but I am hoping the Vikings are the first 16 seed to ever knock off a 1. Go Vikes!!

Thanks for the support Guru. It is great to see a program grow from a school no one recognized to the "upset special" for this season's tourney. I'm proud of what's being accomplished there, and felt like our "moment" was now. Glad you liked it.
Well, I may have lost this contest but the Wildcats took the one that counted!! Still not sure why I got such low scoring in the knowledge criteria? Oh well. At least now, I'll have an actual in-game moment to write about in the future. Curry was unbelievable! I even had random AU fans at the bar cheering for him. Go Cats!!
