Joesph only looked good in college bacause he played next to Vince Big Daddy Wilfolk.

When will these teams learn that just because someone was drafted high it doesn't mean they can play. If after 4or more seasons they have not produced, take the hint , they never will.

Come on Oakland find some young talent in the draft.

Wislon was a good signing, but Joseph never lived up to the hype w/the Giants. Gibril will bring big hits to the Raiders secondary. I for one wished the G-Men would have re-signed him.

Me too, but not for that price! He's a middle of the pack safety and should have been paid like one.

I'm coining a new phrase "The Derrick Burgess Effect".

This phrase is used when Al Davis gambles on a player who has shown promise but been hampered by injuries in the hope that the gamble pays off.

Al Davis has always taken gambles on players that have had a history of injury or are on the downside of their careers. The payoff of his signing of Burgess only furthered to reinforce Al Davis' tactic.

so your a raider fan and you think al davis is still in his prime as a owner and is perfectly capable of turning the franchise around ..he is getting younger too right? the NFL has long passed him by... and the Giants have three good running backs and if stewart falls that far because of his injury I hope they do take him....And I will laugh for the next 5 years as the Raiders suck for all of them and even if the giants dont get back to a superbowl anytime soon I am sure the Raiders wont..can you say laughing stock of the NFL..thats what they are lets not sugar coat the extent of Al davis and his blunders...they are funny to everone else except you I guess..good logic on the wasting money on injury prone guys because they wont get all the money..I dont think thats whats you want when you sign a guy ...I think durability is the major major issue when signign free  agents..you know for most teams..you can throw in an incentive laden deal for and take a chance but not for most of your signings..

William Joseph "BOLTS" Giants for Oakland? HA... unfortunately William did not "BOLT" anything from the Giants because the Giants terminated Joseph's contract because he never lived up to his potential. Actually Jeremy Shockey had talked our GM at the time and coach Jim Fassel into talking William in the first round. So much for listening to loud mouth Shockey. William was a bust. However did make some plays here and there and show flashes of a decent  DT..... Hopefully he can stay healthy for you guys....

As a long time Raiders fan, the last few seasons have been very hard to stomach.  the game has changed significantly over the last decade or so yet Al Davis still runs the team like he did in the 80's.

Pre salary cap, you could go out and sign a bunch a free agents and turn a losing team into a winner overnight.  In today's league, it takes several years to turn a loser into a winner, you just can't do it overnight any longer.  The exception is if you are only missing one or two major pieces to the puzzle, you can fill these with FA's and turn a loser into a winner overnight.  Unfortunately, the Raiders have more than just a couple of holes to fill so there is no way to fix all the problems by overpaying a bunch of free agents.  If the Raiders were one player away from being a winner I'd encourage Al to get out the checkbook and get busy.

Change neds to be made slowly, by utlizing the draft to bring in young players that fit the team system.  Yet another problem the Raiders have.  When you change your coach every other year, there is no chance to establish a system.  Players who were signed for one coaches system may not fit into the new coaches system.  It is a vicious cycle that will keep repeating itself until Al finally turns the controls over to an established GM.

A lot of people come on here and bash AL.  Some of the criticism is valid but much of it is not.  Al Davis wants to win, period.  He doesn't want to take the time to rebuild the franchise over a couple of years by building through the draft.  He wants to win today.  Unfortunately the way the game is today, you can't simply win anymore by outspending the rest of the league.  Hopefully Al will see the light one day soon but I fear that this trend will continue until Al is no longer healthy enough to run the team.
