For your 1st team All Big Ten accolades. I've personally never been a huge fan, but you showed up to play this year and I feel that you are the most deserving out of the other big men available in the conference.
I second a huge congrats to Butch. Kaara called it earlier. However I don't think he called the way Butch ended up there, but regardless it's great to have a Badger on the first team. No Morgan or Neitzel on the first team is suprising, but obviously deserving as MSU collapsed.
A few things: How does Flowers end up 3rd team on the by the coaches? He is a second teamer all the way. Also if other guys get punished because of their collapse at the end of the season so should Gordon. I'm not sure he deserves first team. I was on the Gordon bandwagon early, but the guy flat out could not shoot the past 2-3 weeks. He still got his points but I think he's more suited for the one on one game of the NBA versus the college game. Good to see Landry, and Hughes get some love. Great to see JBO get 6th man award. Krabbs on the all defensive team. I think Flowers deserved the all defensive award.
Also how does Claxton not at least get honorable mention. I realize he didn't play much due to the injury but he was second in the conference in points and rebounds and is a senior. The kid was a great player and desereved some respect with a mention. I'm disappointed in the conference for that. Which also brings me to coach of the year, of course I'm biased and would love to see Ryan get it, and certainly Painter deserves it but what Ed DeChellis did with the team he had without Claxton and Cornlley for a lot of time was amazing. It's easier to coach a top 5 recruiting class versus Penn St's team.
My only true gripe is that Flowers wasn't the defensive player of the year. Not to take anything away from Kraemer, but I don't think that steals are the only thing you consider when selecting a defensive poy. Flowers shut down most of the guys he guarded, and it seems like the senior should have gotten the nod on this. I'm guessing most voters didn't put much thought into it.
Congrats to all the Badgers. I also think that Flowers should have been defensive player of the year. Shutting down the best scoring guards in the league week in and week out had such a huge impact on the Badgers being able to win games is a lot more important than getting steals. Kramer is a good defender but in this case I think you have to go with the senior.
Kramer actually held Neitzel to 15 points total in 2 meetings hes not a guy that gets a lot of attention but he def deserved it, no disrespect to flowers
Kaara called it earlier. However I don't think he called the way Butch ended up there, but regardless it's great to have a Badger on the first team
I guess I don't know what you mean by that. I think Butch is on there for exactly the reasons I thought he would be. He is the most high profile player on the best team in the big ten, he is a senior and he posted solid numbers. Pretty sure those are the reasons I listed and I am pretty sure those are the reasons he is on there. But either way I did call it and frankly it wasn;t that tough a call. On the other side I am flabbergasted Neitzel is not on the media first team, I knew Morgan would miss the cut but Neitzel not being on there astonishes me, I really thought Butler and Butch would be the guys duking it out for the final slot, I didn;t realize it woul dbe Butler and neitzel, so I was wrong on that one (to a degree though I had all the primary players in the discussion).
Congrats to all the Badgers who got post season nods, they were all deserving. Flowers should have won defensive player of the year but he was on the all defense team and he got a second/third team nod respectively which is actually more than I thought he would get. A little surprised Krabb's did not even get a honrable mention nod but he did get an all defensive squad nod. This team racked up the awards though and it is very impressive. This team really reminds me of another recent team whom I will not name at this juncture but it is pretty interesting in the similarities. I will post that teams name (right or wrong) after the season is over and you can tell me how right or wrong I was.
Kramer is very deserving, but I do think the Coaches got it wrong. Kramer has the better individual stats, but IMO benefitted from a team that sold out to get the steals. PU committed a ton of fouls and gave up more points per possession than UW even though they created a lot more turnovers. Flowers was the lockdown defender on the best defensive team in the country, let alone the Big 10.
I actually feel that Flowers may have been hurt in the defensive player of the year voting due to the fact that the Badgers were such a great defensive team in general. Krabbs getting the nod on the all defensive team may have had something to do with Kramer beating out Flowers. It really does not matter in the end, as all three are on the all defensive squad any way. Congrats to all of award winners. I will say, though, that Flowers performance against Neitzel was the best single game defensive performance I had seen in years!
What I mean is that we both had Neitzel and Butler in the discussion. I also threw out Hummel who you said had no chance. That is where it did not go exactly the way you thought it would. I do not know why you insist on making this a continual competition. You must be very insecure. I did say you called it, let it rest at that.
How can the defensive player of the year not come from the best scoring defensive team in the NCAA? Flowers' play week in and week out raised the defense for the whole team, and from there, the Badgers were scary intense on just about every play. I don't want to gripe too much, but third team seems awfully shifty.
And, frankly, while I was a supporter of White and Gordon, their meltown since even before Sampson left is just terrible. Are the talking heads still putting IU in the final four?
I also threw out Hummel who you said had no chance
I never said he had no chance, I thought he had to do alot more as a freshman to get there (which he did do), also when we were discussing him it was before he went on that hot streak in the second half of the conference season
You must be very insecure. I did say you called it, let it rest at that.
Actually I think it is you who must be insecure, what you actually did was acknowledge that I called it but then insisted on saying that "it wasn;t the way i thought it would happen", basically in your own way trying to disprove me. Had you JUST said that I called it I would have let it rest but you insisted on throwing that dig in there, you did that on your own unproviked, that is being insecure, I merely responded to someone calling me out, that is just responding
I do not know why you insist on making this a continual competition.
Are you new to message boards??? The only point is to debate and argue, why else have them I can be agreeable with people in real life, if you don't want to debate go find a knitting circle somewhere.
O I agree congrats Butch you have difinitely finally showed this season that true potential. Your never going to be quite what all the people hyped you up to be. You seem like a man on a mission this year a mission to make the Badgers champs I hope you keep it up.
Krabbs made the All-defensive team from the coaches (the media does not vote for defense). But, no Krabbenhoft did not make any of the All-Big10 teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd, honorable mention).
Hughes made honorable mention for the coaches but not the media. Flowers was 2nd team media and 3rd team coaches. Landry was just the opposite with 2nd team coaches and 3rd team media. Bohannon was voted 6th man of the year by the coaches (again the media has no such award).
