ok guys i know that you think that i bring nothing to do that table (very untrue) but this is a serious thread about illinois basketball. I looked on a page from rivals and one of the writers predicted what players will make the 2009 McDonald's All-American list and guess what.....the prediction is that no illinois commit will be a McDonalds All-American next year! see for yourself

I cant resist anymore!!! WHY THE HELL DO YOU CARE? You told bsisko that if his doing research on the ILLINI was his hobby he needed to get a life. I begining to think that prowling the ILLINI threads is your hobby! And if it is you really have no life! You need to look in the mirror! And what you see staring back at you is LACK OF CLASS! GO AWAY!

OK, for once since you got halfway close to not being a complete moron I'll throw you a bone...
On that list there is no one from the STATE of Illinois on it. However, the top 2 '09 players in the state and odds on favorites for Mr. Basketball are on the Illinois commit list (Joseph Bertrand may be in that mix too).
And one of those, the one with most upside, has only recently begun to get real attention...that would be Brandon Paul. On Scouts if you have one star they know who you are but are waiting on film or video (or more of it) or have not evaluated you in person. Same goes for a lot of the 3 stars when you click on their profile and under "biography" - where the breakdown of the player would be - you get "not available".
Iman Shumpert made this year's McDAA squad (and BPaul went head to head with the senior and went for 36 [Shumpert had 34 but reports said much of that came w/o Paul guarding him]), but towards the end of his junior season of HS he was not even close to being mentioned for the team. Like some kids do that fly under the radar, he blew up BIG TIME in AAU ball before his senior season. Mike Dunigan made his bones in much the same way.
So don't count out DJ Richardson or Tyler Griffey either...but unlike the 6'2" Paul, DJ doesn't have a 7'1" wingspan.
They don't have to be McDonald's All-Americans to be top level players. It's nice, but in the end doesn't always guarantee sucess. We'll see where things stack up after the summer is over. And DaShonte Riley (who was mentioned in your link) just might end up in Orange & Blue.

did u see the other teams going after him? the other teams have better teams, more prestige, better coaches, better competition.....the only way he goes to U of I is if he knows he will play right away and the other schools (like UCLA and Michigan State) wont promise playing time right off the bat

Its so sad how he obviously wants to "belong" somewhere. He has no business being on the UNC boards and to the best of my knowledge there is no NAIA message boards. So now he come here to get attention. Did your parents not hug you or tell you that they love you enough?

It's obvious he didn't become a fan of UNC until 2005. That's why he thinks that Illinois is their main rival and not Duke.
On the topic of McDonald's All-Americans, you don't need them to win but it helps. Looking at the 2005 team, only Dee Brown was a MAA. From what I remember, he wasn't even the best player on that team (Deron Williams & Luther Head).
If you actually think players think about picking a college because of prestige, you are fooling yourself. Most of them want to go pro and will pick a school that will help them get there.

and Illinois is not that....Deron Williams is the only legit NBA player to come from U of I is Deron Williams (not Luther Head cuz he doesnt even start). Guys just dont want to go to the NBA just to be another guy like Head but want to be all-stars.....Look at the guys who are going through Kentucky, UCLA, North Carolina, etc. These guys produce All-Stars.

Very few guys become all-stars and it has NOTHING to do with the college they went to. 7 guys on the all-star roster didn't even go to college. I suppose if they went to North Carolina, UCLA, or Kentucky they would be super duper all-stars?
What All-Star has your superschools produced in the last 5 years? Sean May? Raymond Felton? What about Rashad McCants? I missed those names at the all-star game.
It is all about the money and it has nothing to do with being an all-star. I guess that's why Kevin Garnett entered the draft so he can become a NBA all-star someday. Get real.
I know you want to spin every argument to bash Illinois but this has absolutely nothing to do with the Illinois program. Which is what this message board is about.

Those teams you just mentioned do NOT produce All-Stars. They generally do nothing but blindly recruit and regurgitate the top talent in the country.
Illinois currently has two Ronalds at the top of its athletic department, both of whom I consider to be better evaluators of talent than that oh-so-knowing McDonald.

Brandon Paul will probably be a McDonalds All American next year and Jerome Richmond and Crandall Head will be in the future

This guy is just using this forum to get off on the angry replies we leave him...I honestly would rather nobody reply to his crazy antics than sit here and argue with him...i mean really, is coming in to "rub" in our face that next years recruiting class is sub par something to get worked up about? Our future is bright in champaign...and it always will be because we're in the big ten and we gets the attention, and don't try to sh&* talk us when your squad went 8-20 a few years back. UNC isn't immune to the loss bug either.
