The Cubs haven't been playing good baseball since getting there 14 game home win streak snapped. No need to panic but I have a feeling until Soriano and Zambrano return the bad play may continue. The Cubs need these two guys back because they can't do it without them.

Your crazy... They can do it without them. Zambrano hurts a lot more than Soriano, but this Cubs team has more depth than the cubs of the past. Losing Fukudome for  bit hurts to. Every team has slumps and the cubs were over due for one. They will ride this out, Lou will get them back on track and just as the cubs heat back up the Cardinals and breweres should be due for their next slump and the whole thing will even back out.

Also Dempster has pitched lights out all year and finally got roughed up. Johan Santana got beat up his last game to but that doesn't mean he is a bad pitcher.  I would rather it happen now than later so those players that are struggling like Dempster can learn to work through it and will be a little more savy come playoff time.

I think you should say "if" Carlos Zambrano returns.  All indications are that he will return just fine, but you never know with pitchers.  The Cubs can get by without Soriano, but they will suffer quite a bit if Zambrano doesn't return.

Ted Lilly is not a number 1 pitcher.

The only positive with the Cubs losing yesterday is at least the Cardinals and Brewers lost as well.  I was hoping Dempster would be a sure victory, but looks like the Cubs are in a bad stretch for a bit.  It happens to every team and they'll get through.  Illini has a good point about "if" Zambrano returns.  If it was back spasms or something minor, then I wouldn't worry so much, but an issue with a shoulder is always concerning.  Especially wen you consider the Cubs recent history with star pitchers.  Mark Prior and Kerry Wood.  We'll know more in a week.

I think the problem with the losing right now is Pinella.  I heard about a senior moment but some of his decisions lately has been really bad. Why did he pinch hit for Edmonds the other day?  Why the last two days that he leaves pitchers in so long that the Cubs cannot climb out of such a hole?  And why is he sitting Theriot down when he is probably the hottest hitter on the team besides Ramirez and Fukodome and Edmonds?  He needs to sit down Lee for a change.  He has hit into so many double plays this year.  It is killing the team.  Pinella and some others say Theriot is tired. I mean Theriot only is tied for 2nd in the NL with the most multiple hit games with 31 games. I think he needs to continue to play Theriot in the 2nd spot .  It looks like Lee is the one that is tired.  And they have gotten everything out of Patterson they can. He needs to be sent down. He has errors in the past couple of games that has really hurt the team. Hopefully Pinella will start thinking better and the Cubs get back to their winning ways again.

What Pinella is doing is resting a lot of his players in positions that take a beating.  You need to be solid up the middle at catcher and in centerfield defensively and yo0u don't want those players wearing out.  He is simply just giving those players rest when he can.

Regarding the pinch hitting issue, Lou knows hitting better than any coach in the MLB.  We have the highest BA over any team even with our pitcher batting 9.  I don't think any of us are in the position to critisize his moves when it comes to hitting.

A lot of Cubs fans remember we are just getting to the half way point.  Lour likes to turn it up in the second half, so i would say we are in real good shape.  To go along with that we are 1st in the NL central without Soriano and Zambrano.
