It is near the end of May now and the Pirates are about to go back to 3 games under .500. I don't know about you, but I am liking the Pirates chances this year. Their bats continue to be pretty consistent. So, once the bad pitching gets going like Gorzelanny and Snell we might have a shot at making a run for this thing. Also we seem to be in a pretty tough division this year I mean we are in last and we are 3 games under .500 thats pretty tough. So I think this is the Pirates year to finish over .500 I have said that since the beginning of the year. Also I am not one of those people who have been saying that it is the Pirates year for like a decade now. I hate those people who say it is their year like every year. This is the first time I have predicted to be their year in about 5 years now. Anyway what do you guys thinks...
I said it last year for the first time. Got off to that 6-1 start or something then fell off the map. This year i was in doubt. I didn't know what the bats were gonna be like. I have always and still have all the confidence in the world for this young pitching staff. I'm afraid they are going to lose some nice pieces in Nady, or Marte in the bullpen.
I think if this team sticks together for a bit and drafts Alvarez(which i am excited about) or Beckham they may be in good shape. McClouth has come down a bit and they are still finding bats.
I'm not convinced. Our starting pitching is awful. I watched Gorzo get destroyed by the Cubbies in Wrigley. Then I watched the same thing happen to Duke at PNC. I know that is the Cubs, but it seems everytime they start sniffing .500 they go on a losing streak. I'm more optomistic, I think we're heading in the right direction but we won't break the Curse of Sid Bream yet.
If only NH can flip Nady for a young SP ready to take a shot (someone like Jeff Niemann, Wade Davis, David Purcey) we could fix the rotation a bit and add the missing dimension to the lineup (speed). I'm already psyched about a batting order of McCutchen, McLouth, Bay, Doumit, LaRoche, Sanchez, Bautista, Wilson.
i agree ...we appear to have the two gems of this year's trade market in nady and bay. i am glad to see that huntington didn't jump on the first trade that came along for either of them before the season started, like the previous leaders did with our assets. hang on to those guys until someone in need becomes desperate, could happen this year with the Rays if they continue to lead the Red Sox.
bottom line is i think we are in perfect position to really fleece somebody this year. there is no reason if we trade nady and bay that we shouldn't get at least 3 major league ready prospects and a couple with good potential in return. anything short of that would be disappointing. any conversation with potential suitors for either nady or bay should start with us getting one major league ready starting pitcher preferably a rh power pitcher and at least 1 or 2 additional prospects depending on how good the starter is.
