With Morgan retiring that leaves a hole at WLB I know we have Mitchell and Dunbar but those guys don't have the speed to play outside.  What would you do to replace him?

Take a chance with Thurman. Basically that's what we were doing with Morgan, low risk high reward. We knew Morgan had issues, now I know they are different kind of issues, but whose to say he hasn't gotten his s#it straight. Like shade mentioned, he has stayed out of trouble the past 2 years so why not take a chance.

Not Takeo Spikes!!  He is the kiss of death.  He played for a number of teams and has yet to play in a playoff game in his entire career.  That means every team he has played for has missed the playoffs.

I like the idea of waiting for 10 days, sure bring Spikes, Thurman, Gold or Colvin in for a chat but hold off until the cuts. Potentially there could be some great Cap Hit gems.

I have my eye on Bobby Carpenter

Whats up fellas??  Sorry i have been mia but between work, new niece, tee-ball and Jaycees i have been snowed under!!

I seem to remember saying that Morgan was a waste of time a few months ago when we signed him and look how that turned out!  Thurman definitely has the talent but can he stay on the field?  IMO all of the other players (besides Thurman) listed are on the downside of their careers.  I really like DD's idea of Carpenter and we all know how much S.P. likes signing former players.

I really think that Thurman is a lost cause. He is a great linebacker, but he doesn't seem to understand or care that his career is at stake. The fact that the Bengals (who have had his back despite being suspended two years) just released him is not a good sign. We would also be lucky to get 1-2 years out of Colvin, Spikes, or Gold. Therefore I am going to agree with Dempseydog and hope we wait until the cuts. Just because we lost Morgan doesn't mean we have to get desperate. Even if we don't land some one (even though it would be preferable to upgrade the WLB), our much improved D-line as well as Vilma and Fujita will take a lot of the pressure off whomever fills in. This situation is not as dire as many might fear.

Sign Odell Thurman to one of those heavy incentive laden contracts.  If he stays out of trouble then great.  If not, oh well, nothing lost.

Porchwolf, I hear what your saying, but I respectfully disagree. First off I don't know anything about the Bengals being smart or anything remotely related to having any sense.

The fact that the Bengals (who have had his back despite being suspended two years) just released him is not a good sign.

The Bengals cut him because he didn't return to OTA's one day after his grandmother passed. Now this lady raised him since he was 10 years old after his mother died. I know they had his back when he was suspended, but do you think it's fair he had only one day to grieve for someone who raised them? I think the Bengals are getting a little ahead of themselves. Dropping Chris Henry I could see, however he hasn't been found guilty yet. Kind of like what's going on with Cedric Benson, it was assumed that the Bears were going to drop him, and then some different accounts of what went down started to come up and now the Bears are sticking with him for the time being. In any event, I don't see a problem with seeing what could happen with Thurman. Give him one of those incentive laden deals with some behavorial clauses in there. Low Risk, high reward. The kid was out 2 years and didn't get into any trouble, to me that says he is trying to walk the straight path.

I dont think Colvin would fit with our style of play on defense, Takeo Spikes is getting tossed around the league to much and it says somthing about his value... Thurman could have a chance to do somthing with the Saints but it depends on how much he wants to prove and if he can keep his focus on Football.
