Saints SS Roman Harper

Coming off a torn ACL, Harper was exposed at times in coverage in '07. But he showed a knack for the big play and held off Kevin Kaesviharn for playing time. Giants GM Jerry Reese, who's quickly established himself as an elite judge of talent, wanted Harper in a Jeremy Shockey trade this offseason. The Saints said no.

Harper returns a full year removed from surgery and should regain some range. The Saints like to send him on blitzes, which increases Harper's fantasy upside, and he could see more tackle opportunities behind a linebacker unit that may have two starters returning from serious injury (MLB Jonathan Vilma and WLB Dan Morgan). Harper projects as a consistent and top-shelf DB1.

2007 Line: 90 (75 solo) – 4 SCK – 3 INT – 0 FR – 2 FF – 8 PASS DEF
Projection: 100 (84 solo) – 3 SCK – 2 INT – FR – 3 FF – 7 PASS DEF
2008 Rotoworld Rank: DB1

That projection doesn't look like much of an improvement to me Dempseydog, i would like to think he is going to have better pass defense numbers than that this year. I really think our front four are going to put constant pressure on the quarterbacks, limiting their time to pick out a receiver, so interceptions and passes defended are going to go up.

Actually Patduke, if those are his numbers it could represent an overall improvment of the secondary as a whole. I mean how many passes defende do you want your safety to make, vice your cornerback. If the LB corp improves the run defense, that means your safeties won't have as many tackles, which means that you don't have runners going through your secondary stage of defense. I would love those numbers for harper as they should also represent the improvement of the rest of the defese.

I don't care who makes the tackles, who intercepts the ball, who deflects rhe passes or who forces the fumbles. As a whole the entire defense has to improve this year for us to be viable contenders in the NFL. We need to be in the top half defensively for us to get to where we want to be.
