If it falls in line with last year I figure the first weekend of camp to be the last weekend in July and that would make the first practice open to the public on friday July 25. I am tentatively planning to take the 25th and the 28th off from work this year (unless the dates end up being different than what I am expecting them to be). I will reserve the exact same camp site at the same camp ground (Le Fleurs Bluff which is just a 5-10 minute drive from Millsaps) since it worked out so well for me last year just as soon as the dates are officially confirmed.
What I did last year was take off that friday and the next monday to give myself a four day weekend for making the trip and spending as much time as possible watching practices. I drove straight home after work thursday and went to sleep early that night so I could get up super early (3 AM is when I left if I remember right) and drove to Jackson from Chattanooga (about a 5 1/2 - 6 hr drive) for that first practice friday morning at 8:50 AM. I arrived way earlier than planned and drove into the Millsaps campus at like 7:30 AM (well ahead of any security even being set up to take money from me). I then set up camp right after that first practice (my camp site was reserved for 3 nights ahead of time and waiting for me when I got there). I was there for practices friday morning and afternoon, saturday (same) and sunday (same) and then packed up my camp site Monday morning so I could leave after (actually during) the monday afternoon practice to come back home. That allowed me to watch 7 1/2 practices over just that one weekend.
I have some ideas about when and where we can all meet up but it will depend on when everyone is planning to arrive in Jackson or planning to show up at Millsaps for that first practice. If we can all arrive super early like I did last year, we can probably all just drive right into the practice area (without even having to pay) and just meet there that morning. Then a few of us could go out in one vehicle and get some breakfast for all of us to eat right there while we wait for the practice to start.
