I don't know how those three post went off like that, but here is the complete story! Sorry!
I was invited to play golf tomorrow. I would really hate to miss the marquis pitching match up of the year! Other than Brandon Webb in the National League, few compare with Edison Volquez so far this year. He has made most of us forget about losing Josh Hamilton (not me). Anyway, another story. Volquez has been solid for the Reds this year. 6 wins, 1 loss that was a 2-0 shutout against. A tidy 1.12 ERA, 48 1/3 innings, 35 hits, 7 runs, only 6 of them earned, 57 whiffs vs 26 walks. Probably Volquez's only cryptonite is the base on balls, raising his pitch counts, and leading to early exits. This is something we do not need. The reliability of the Reds bullpen, is that of a used Yugo bought at Uncle Charlies House of Wheels in Soutwestern Oklahoma! Eight innings of Cy Young like pitching will be required to beat Cliff Lee
Cliff Lee has been one of the brightest stars in Major League baseball so far this year. His numbers are mind boggling. 6 wins, zero losses. A microscopic 0.67 ERA, yes thats zero point six seven. That is sick! He has pitched 53 2/3 innings and has given up a scant 32 hits, 5 runs (FIVE) and only 4 of them are earned. He has struck out 44 batters and walked how many? Guess? FOUR! Four walks in 53.7 innings. Forget game film or video or whatever Dick Pole has our pitchers doing. Just pop in a video of any game that Cliff Lee has pitched in this year. Sit our pitchers down with a large soda and some popcorn and tell them they can get out of their seats after the game is over.
Only six Indians have ever faced Volquez:
Only Ryan Freel and Brandon Phillps have had any success vs Cliff Lee. Dusty Baker may want to use the scrappy right handed lineup tomorrow. Any right handed bat we can get! Reds lefties do not hit Cliff Lee, except for a little long ball by Griffey!
- Adam Dunn - 1-11, 2BB, 5K
- Ken Griffey - 4-14, 3 HR, all solo, 3 BB, 1K
- Ryan Freel - 4-8, 1 3B, 3 RBi, 2BB
- Brandon Phillips - 3-8, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBi
- Edwin Encarnacion - 0-2, 1 BB
- Jerry Hairston - 0-3
- Scott Hatteburg - 0-3, 1K
- David Ross 0-2
- Javier Valentin - 1-2
It is supposed to be a partly cloudy and breezy day tomorrow at Great American BallPark. Winds out the West at 15 to 20 mph. If I am not mistaken, winds out the west blow out to left and left center field. It will be imperative that Volquez keep the ball down.
Lets go Reds! 6 game win streak!
Sorry about the earlier incomplete post guys! PC Freakout or something!
