Another thoroughly frustrating loss for the Brewers, the failure of the offense to score with men in scoring position and less than 2 outs is now WAY beyond a joke.

However, I can get past that.

What really left me dumbstruck was their approach in the 9th. innings. Rickie Weeks swung at 2nd. pitch and made an out, as did Mike Cameron, Ryan Braun also swung at the 2nd. pitch. OK, he hit a homer so he gets a pass. Then Prince made an out swinging at the first pitch.

So here we are 1st. game of a double-header, the Red Sox bring in their stud closer, and 4 hitters see a total of 7 pitches.

Did it not occur to anybody that making him work for his outs, ie: by throwing 15-20 pitches may have limited his effectiveness for the next 24 hours and given the Brewers a significant advantage in games 2 & 3 if they prove to be close. (Heaven knows we need all the help we can get. right now)

Am I expecting too much, or did somebody on the Brewers miss a trick?

Actually, they did this from about the 4th inning on.  They were swinging early in the count, especially while facing Dice-K.  Maybe it was something in their scouting report that told them to swing early and often....

I don't think it was dumb, I agree though that it was in the scouting report for Dice K.  He has such great command of his off-speed stuff that early count fastballs are the best bet for batters later in the game, especially if the strike zone is quite liberal and he has a lower pitch count going in to the later innings.

I personally HATE it when batters don't work the count, but at the same time, can I get angry at Brauny for a 2nd-pitch homerun? Hmm...I just hate watching all those first pitch fastballs hit the middle of the zone and pop in the catcher's glove. So frustrating...At any rate, we'll have Wakefield for game 2...not that it's too much better, but he's hittable.

Go Crew!

And this was even dumber............

Men on 1st. & 3rd. (1 out) the world strikeout champion (Cameron) at the plate with 2 strikes. and one of the planets hottest hitters (Braun) on deck.

I know................."let's put the hit and run on."

"Oh dear, that went horribly wrong. Who'd have thunk it?"

YOST MUST GO!

I think that the "World Strikeout Champion" would have to go to the Rob Deer of my generation......... Bill Hall.

So far this year, Bill Hall has 44 strikeouts in 157 at bats (1 every 3.56)

Mike Cameron has 23 stikeouts in 66 at bats (1 every 2.87)

Had Mike Cameron played the entire season, he would be on pace for 55 strikeouts, worse than Bill Hall, and everybody else in the majors apart from Ryan Howard and Mark Reynolds.
