Even though we lost a tough one today, I had to throw out that Wuertz didn't even get a single praise for his play this afternoon. If it weren't for him, the Pirates would have scored double digits and Zambrano's ERA would have ballooned. I know that D Lee made a great double play to stop the bleeding and end the inning, but we should give Wuertz props for turning his play around recently.

Michael Wuertz did a great job! Too bad he didn't get enought credit but he has done a great job for the Cubs and is usually a pretty consistent reliever when that sweet slider. Sure he slumps a little bit but everyone does and again he did an excellent job coming in relief.

in his last 4 outing (7.2 IP) he's allowed only 2 hits, no BBs

Michael Wuertz pitching well lately is symbolic of the Cubs so far this season, in that the team is getting contributions from almost everyone on the team, and during different times.  Notice that Wuertz has picked up the slack in the mid to late innings (6 & 7) out of the bullpen while Howry has continued to struggle.  Ted Lilly has really improved over the same time that Rich Hill struggled and was sent to the minors.  Similarly, Soriano is red hot while Derrek Lee has struggled recently.  My point is that everyone is not going to contribute on a consistent basis, so the Cubs are fortunate that the team is getting hitting and pitching from different sources.  This will only serve them well down the road and into the later part of the year, when players are bound to hit rough spots.
