Yes, I know why...First San Antonio is an older team, second the NBA is giving them a chance to recover, and third a N.O. sale is harder to present to the rest of the NBA world. I'm from San Antonio, and I can tell you that there is no way S.A. has a chance if this game is played on Saturday, some chance if played on Sunday, and their chances have dramaticly improved having the game on Monday... 4 days rest and they came out and creamed PHX. If there is justice in the NBA for the Spurs it's the timing of this game. The NBA has never liked the Spurs, due to the small market and half court play, so maybe they have earned the rest or the NBA willl face a N.O./Laker series, which doesn't sale like a Spurs/Laker series. I've been a Spurs fan since forever and I can tell you that we were never going to win an NBA Championship without 2 No.1 picks....(Robinson & Duncan). So, once this happened, then history was changed! Much like the Joe Montana story in SF. Now, who will win?...The best Coach in the NBA is not Jackson in LA, but Popivich in SA. Jackson will probably be the better coach overalll, however he is no longer in his prime. "Pop" knows how to Coach his players and to manage the game. He has already played this game in his mind and has had 4 days to construct his plan. Remember, the Spurs have won 3 of the last 4 since implementing his adjustments after losing 2 in N.O. Ask Jimmy Johnson, "We won the game (Super Bowl) before it was even played. I'm not saying the Spurs will win 100%, but the odds are against N.O., as there are too many things going against them, inexperience, a soft game, over-confidence, and a dangerous opponent with plenty of rest and preperation.

I had hoped to watch the game , but since it is monday I will be working. (I work nights)

the hornets were always my favorite eastern conference team. I would like to see them make it to the western conference finals...

My guess is the NBA wants to give the Lakers an extra day of rest. I think they're hoping that whoever emerges from the NO/SA series is comes out flat in game 1 and the Lakers win easily.

Lakers/Celtics is David Stern's wet dream. The Magic/Bird flashbacks combined with two of the largest markets in the country should make for monster ratings.

Lakers/Pistons isn't a bad fall back option, since most of the east coast will still watch because they dislike the Lakers. And the Magic/Isiah footage should play almost as well as the the Magic/Bird stuff.

The worst-case scenario for the league from a ratings standpoint is the winner of the NO/SA game winning the west.

The reason there are so many days off in between is the spurs are old and one of the commishoners favorite teams.  Every year and every series they have more days between game then any other team.  It is ridiculous   just like last year when teams complained about the new ball it was blown off   last January when the spurs started complaining about it the ball was replaced.   Basically the NBA is set up to have the pathetic spurs in the finals every year.  You can't argue  actions.  However the long layoff to game 7  benefited the hornets this year cuz of David West and his injury.  Doesnt matter to me who my lakers play   just really dont wanna see the San Antonio Whinners to move move on I dont need to see Duncan cry about every sing call for another series.

Lakers fan, that was a really stupid post. The "commishoner" does not like the Spurs....small market = low ratings = less money. David Stern is dreaming about a Lakers-Celtics finals, because that would make the most money. Sorry if you didn't want to see them move on, but they just did.

With what Donahey is saying David Stern is doing a bit more than dreaming of a Celtic Laker final...He's writing the script
