I have heard several people on this board talk about how we should bring up Homer Bailey. Homer has had a rough go of it lately in Louisville. He is 4-3 now. He has given up 48 hits in 50 2/3 innings. His ERA is 3.55, he has struk out 40 while walking only 14. His main concern with the Reds was his control, and giving up too many walks. He seems to have that under control. I really wonder if he is just getting bored in the minors? You wonder what this kid thinks as he sees other Red pitchers blow up and surrender 5 and 6 runs per start. You wonder if he thinks he is going to be stuck in the minors all the year. Homer has a lively arm, and if his control has improved, then I would think that would help this team, even if out of the bullpen. Our bullpen has been awful lately. Jared Burton can't seem to get anyone out. David Weathers is a washed up, heart attack waiting to happen, on the hill. Josh Fogg has been sitting on the sidlines since May 4th. This is a big mystery to me. How can a pitcher be on your roster and not have appeared in a game in 13 days? Mike Lincoln has given up 4 earned runs in each of his last two relief appearances. Not exactly what you want in the pen. Bill Bray has been so-so out of the pen. Jeremy Affeldt and Francisco Cordero have been the only strong points this year out of the pen. I don't understand, why Bailey is still in Louisville. Let him come up to the team. Give him one or two starts, and if he falters, move hime to the pen. This team has been more than patient with Belisle and Fogg. Niether has panned out and no longer deserve a roster spot on this team. How much worse can Bailey be? Is it really a matter of money? I'm sure Belisle still has options and could be sent to AAA. I thought the Reds were interested in trading Fogg back to Colorado? Why is he still on the roster if he is not going to play? Scott Hatteburg has 53 plate appearances in 42 games this year. Is it really that important to keep a light hitting, backup firstbaseman on the team? I know he hasn't any options, but this is just more dead weight this team is carrying around. It is really time for this team to make some moves. They have shown they can win ball games without Fogg, without Hatteburg, without Belisle. We should really be giving Bruce and Bailey a chance to prove themselves.

Note: Don't want to get started on the Patterson thing!

I agree with you quite a bit. One thing that worries me about him though is that he has got tore up recently, which would leave me to believe hes hanging his pitches.  I dont get to see him pitch or anything, but with the ammount of runs hes given up id put him in the pen first.  I personally think hes got alot of talent, but he has a horrible horrible attitude.  I would wonder that if bringing in a cocky young kid who wont listen to the vets would counteract bringing someone like Bruce up that wants to be the best he can be.

What I don't understand is if we brought Jeremy Affledt in to contend for a starting spot, and Fogg has been a joke and moved to the pen, why don't we see what he can do? He wanted to start, he is pitching good out of the pen, let him have a spot start or two and see what happens. Belisle is a joke, Fogg is a joke, Arroyo is not all that great, granted he has had to solid starts, let him try. We are in last place going into June, moves have to be made.

Affeldt lost his starting spot when he was pounded in spring training. And today didn't help his case by not even getting one out. This is the scary part of this team...the middle relief. Affeldt is not a starter and to me is just a situational bullpen guy. Arroyo is coming around after his fastball finally reached 91 in the past couple starts. But the bullpen blew that win for him too, although we won later.
