Eagles fans, do you think Ryan Moats will make the Eagles roster in 2008?

Also, check out the following link from the 2005 Draft and you will note that the Eagles selected Ryan Moats with pick # 77 of the draft in the 3rd round and Sean Consodine with pick # 102 of the draft in the 4th round. 7 picks later in the 4th round the Cowboys selected Marion Barber and 1 pick later the Giants selected Brandon Jacobs. Later in the 4th round with the 123rd pick of the entire draft the Jets selected Saftey Kerry Rhodes.

That being said, if the Eagles could change the 2005 NFL draft do you think the Eagles should have picked Kerry Rhodes and either Marion Barber or Brandon Jacobs?

That's a pretty dumb question. Of course they would've been good picks. JJ Arrington and Eric Shelton went in the 2nd round.......Frank Gore went in the 3rd. Those types of things happen man.

agreed with bisohop, if you look at it like that, you can find a better pick later for almost every single draft pick.  as for moats, I really don't see what he would add to this team at all.

I don't really see Moats making the team with 5 RBs on board but Im sure if the Eagles could go back to the 2005 or any year in the past draft to make changes they would as would every other team in the NFL. Also maybe if they picked Barber and or Rhodes maybe you don't get Trent Cole or Todd Herremans later in the draft either. Never know.

i dont know why people shoot down moats so much. i mean when he had the chance he showed us what he had and it was pretty damn good. i think buck should be the one man out. yeah buck had somewhat of a comeback but u know what you get with buck. bucks not gonna get better or show us something new. moats showed glimpse of being a key contributor especially if he knew the playbook and didnt get hurt last year. plus still has more to learn and has more space to grow. bucks getting old too.

Not too sure about getting rid of Buck to give Moats a spot, Buck is 30 this year and with the limited action he will see this year it is not exactly going to be strenuous on his body and it should not be an issue.

The downside with Moats is that although he showed glimpses of potential when he was on the field, Buck does it consistently. 5 yards a carry and four touchdowns last season. If the coaches thought that Moats had that in him at this point of his career, he would have been on the field more last season.

I am not putting Moats down, I have not seen enough of him to say one way or the other what his potential is, however Buckhalter gives the Eagles the consistency they need. If Moats makes the team because he shows more talent than Buck in mini camp then good for him, I just can't see it happening based on past performance.

In response to the initial question, of course the eagles would pick different players with the majority of their picks in the majority of drafts with the benefit of hindsight, however a team evolves with the bad decisions as well as the good ones, the bad ones give other players the chance to step up and that has worked out pretty well for the eagles in the past. Players are also a product of coaching as well as natural ability, If any of the "name" players had been chosen instead of Moats there is no guarantee that they would still be the players that they now are.

of course he was! i forget, I was thinking about the 2005 season.

still my point remains that they are not going to cut buck just for the sake of it, Moats has to beat him out in camp, and I am sure that battle will be fair. However in order to beat out Buckhalter and the consistency he offers, Moats is going to have to really show that spark again. I hope it will be a good competition, and think of it as a great position for the Eagles to be in, young potential against a reliable back up.

I think the trade for Booker pretty much spelled the end of Ryan Moats.

I would agree, by bringing in a guy like Booker with a similar skill set the Eagles pretty much are telling Moats show up there's the door. I believe they will give Moats a fair chance in hopes that somebody out there is impressed with his upside and offers a mid round pick next year for him. But if Moats comes in is overly impressive, meaning too good to let go, Buck would be the guy that is shown the door. Having Tony Hunt on the roster gives us a big banger so we wouldnt need Buck for goal line situations, and Moats and Booker have similar skill sets as West meaning if he had an injury we would still be able to run the same kind of offense.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys on the field. Fly Eagles Fly

Ryan Moats is almost a mortal lock not to make the Eagles roster, but he should have a chance to catch on with another team and get some touches elsewhere.  A team like the Lions or even the Rams could use a guy like him just to get the ball to a change of pace type of back.  We shall see this summer.

Ryan Moats can't catch. In the Eagles offense there is no room for a back that can't catch.

If all the Eagles asked a running back to do was to run the ball Moats might beat out every back on the team except Brian Westbrook.

Moats showed a lot of potential running the ball when he got the oppertunity as a rookie. That has never been his problem though, he can't catch, he doesn't read/react to the blitz, and can't hold on to the ball. When Booker was brought in, Moats was all but told to pack his bags. The sad part is I think he is really good with the ball in his hands and makes people miss regularly.

As to Pac-man's other question, the simple answer is no. The reason why I say that is because they were not looking for a pounding running back, they wanted a back similar to Westbrook so that their offensive philosiphy didn't change during Westbrook's constant injuries. As far as Kerry Rhodes goes, the Eagles were looking for more of a special teams type player that could fill in at safety. They already had Dawkins & Lewis, both were coming off pro-bowl seasons. Hindsight is 20/20, there are a lot of drafts we all would love to see our teams get a do over. That's why we have free-agency. Obviously not every pick will pan out, the teams that hit more often than miss and are smart in free agency are the teams that are always competing for the playoffs.

i agree, the Eagles offense is based on a scramblein QB and with McNabb being to scared to throw an int he relies heavily on the RB and TE for the short wing passes. he has no where near the speed or the elusiveness that westbrook or booker. and with the signing of booker and buck healthy there isnt goona be much playing time for him. even last year he was only really used as a close to the goal line draw or inside short run guy that could get it the next 3 or 4 yards. leave the outside and catching to westbrook and booker. hes not that needed anymore unless buck gets hurt like he does alot or westbrook id double covered too much which is always a factor but booker is there to create the mismatch again and make this offense work.
