i have a little situation with my 3rd basemen. i have Chone Figgins and Kevin Kouzmanoff whom have been fairly reliable. figgins is on the dl and i've been haning on to him and kouzmanoff has stunck so far this week. should i pick someone up or try to trade to upgrade? Alex Gordon, Troy Glaus, Akinori Iwamura and Joe Crede are all free agents. i also have trade bait haveing both Victor Martinez and Geovany Soto also Ryan Howard and justin mornaeu.

It looks like Figgins will be back in another week, so if you can find someone to just fill in until he returns, you'd be better off. Figgins will continue to produce consistently when he is healthy again.

However, you should be able to improve your team a bit by offering up Martinez or Soto.
No reason to have either of them sitting on the bench, with the exception of having a solid backup in the event of an injury.
But depending on your needs at other positions, you could definitely land a quality player with a trade for either of those catchers.

Is Encarnacion with the Reds available, he would be a good stopgap for a week or two?

I would go with Alex Gordon or Edwin Encarnacion (good call reds2006) before I would go with Kouzmanoff.  The Kouz just isn't getting it done this year and it sure doesn't help that he plays most of his games at spacious Petco Park in San Diego.  Edwin Encarnacion plays in a hitter friendly park and he's finally living up to expectations.  I would look to trade Victor Martinez at some point because he is a big name that most people would want on their team.  Geovany Soto seems to be the real deal at this point and is hitting in the middle of a great lineup so I think he has a little more value at this point.  So pick up Encarnacion as a stop gap and try to trade Victor Martinez to try and improve another part of your team.  Hope that helps some.

I would go with Glaus for this one week.  He is on fire right now.  Then you can return Figgins to the lineup when healthy.

I would definitely look to trade V-Mart.  But with his current power numbers, you may have to wait until he at least starts to hit with some power to maximize your return.  You can try now, but probably won't get what you should for the position you drafted him.
