This upcoming road trim in St. Louis followed by a stint out in Oakland will show a lot about our young ballclub.

We have played the most division games so far with 30, only one other team is even close to that amount.  Our 18 and 12 record within the division so far looks to be a good start but the series against St. Louis is going to show how deep our club is.  Joe Maddon hinted at giving some of the guys a little break in this upcoming series.  Carl Crawford, Aki, and B.J. Upton could all benefit from a couple of days off.  The interleague series would be the ideal time to do that but at the same time we do not want to lose any momentum.

The Oakland series following St. Louis is going to show us a little about how this team can travel.  Playing in places like Boston, New York, Toronto, and Baltimore does not pose the same demands of a West Coast road trip.  It will be interesting to see how the club responds during and after this trip.

I was raised in the Tampa area but since we did not have a team I grew up a Red Sox fan.  I watched as the Rays had a terrible owner who could only be compared to Hugh Culverhouse.  As much as I wanted the Rays to win, it is hard to dedicate yourself to a team when the ownership does not even make an effort to put a competitive product on the field.  THANKFULLY we now have a GREAT owner and competant people running the program.  The Rays are working hard, doing things the right way, and are now seeing the benefits of their labor.  If you haven't watched them play yet, then go check out a game.  It is some of the most exciting baseball that I have seen in a long time and you don't have to be a Rays fan to appreciate the way these guys play the game.

Keep it up Tampa!!! (err...St. Pete)

These guys just keep playing like a first place team.  It is great to finally have the hometown team playing quality baseball.

These Rays are raising heads all over the major league and grabbing national media attention.  Who are these guys? most are saying.  They are near the top of the American League in defense and pitching, the two most important determinants of success in baseball.  They have a confident air.  They can win with the long ball, or a manufactured run.  They can trot out five starters who have demonstrated an ability to pitch deep into games, a reliable relief corps, and a determined veteran closer.

This team should be there for the long haul.  88 to 92 wins is not out of the question.  These Rays are reminiscent of the 1991 Braves and Twins, who both went from worst to first, and played, arguably, the best World Series of all time.

Stranger things have happened.

Go Rays!!

dek, nice post, and your right, the Rays have came out of the gates like they never have before and have taken the league and most experts by surprise. They are used to seeing the Devil Rays of old and are having a hard time updating their thinking. They want to see them finish off the season like theyve started before they jump on the old bandwagon. I am a diehard Rays fan but I still think that 90 wins is a stretch for us this year. Im thinking 85-88 securing the .500 record. We are locking up our core players it almost seems daily, this team will be competitive for many years to come, unlike the team south of here the Florida Marlins, who have a fire sale whenever they can. On another subject Ive got to say I love watching your video thing, funny as hell nice work!
