Thanks for the info Todd.  And great rebuts from WhoDem.   Honestly I laugh more from Whodem's retorts than anyone on the CBS site. 

 Hey, Who, you have any of that Kumbaya Stew left?   I could use it.  Just returned from the Doctors Office.  When I first read Todd's post earlier today, I immediately went to the emergency room to see if that is what was causing me my recent stomach "problems".  I'll be damned if Doc didn't say he read the same report as Todd.   

Doc said he had no faith in current meds on the market.  But he did recommend a big bowl of WhoDem's Kumbaya Stew and for desert, some "humble pie".

Go Dawgs!  But be nice at the same time!

go take a good serious analysis of both the Big Ten and SEC over the past 15 years.

Do it this way to make the comparisons more balanced.

Suppose Notre Dame had joined the Big Ten back in 93 along with Penn State. Now, by all common sense the 2 divisions would be split with OSU, PSU and ND in the east along with Indiana, Purdue and MSU.  Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, NW, Illinois and Minnesota making up the west. Playing all in each division and 3 out of division along with 4 OOC. Guess what happens in that scenario? Yeah, you Southeast Carolina (SEC) fans are right. The conference up north is dominated by OSU and UM but not really by too much. In FACT, there is far more parity when comparing divisional champs and conference champs in that scenario than there is when comparing the divisional champs and conference champs of the SEC (aka Cassell's South East Carolina college). HUhhhhhh, 'magine dat?!????? The SEC was dominated in the 90's by the East Division, especially Florida, and only in this decade has there been any parity with LSU winning the division and conference. So, the SEC is the Big 2, little 10. Sound familiar?

just for your education as well as the midwesterners, Northwestern, through the 90's was really producing some good teams and in the 12 team conference with CCG, Northwestern actaully contends better for the #2 spot in the west division than Wisconsin. In a CCG scenario, Wisconsin wins the west 4 times but never wins the conference, whereas, NW goes to the CCG 4 times and has 2 wins. For you Greatest of all college football team fans, sorry, Domers, I have you winning that scheme one time, in 93, after that you struggle to win the east division. Even if you did get to the CCG, you never win the conference. It's mostly between OSU and PSU in the east, PSU going to the CCG 5 times; winning outright only 2; losing all 3 times they are matched up against UM. OSU dominates the conference with 7 CCG appearances and 5 conference championships in the past 15 years. 33% versus 25% for UM. ND, Purdue, MSU each have one. Iowa makes it to the CCG twice but has to contend with OSU in some very good years for the Buckeyes. That's it sports fans.

One caveat: Maybe the folks in South Bend played this same scenario out and realized how terrible they would fare in a 12 team Big Ten. I think after the past 15 years they have enough empirical data to realize the glory days are really behind them and if PSU had to contend with tougher competition and they ended up second tier, would the ND faithful ever accept ending up in the third tier? That is my analysis of the situation and my opinion why ND wouldn't join the Big Ten. MOST especially not now. The big money contract makes for a nice smoke screen though, till that dries up. then it's off to the Big East for them.

I  the 90's Northwestern was 44 -69 with 2 winning seasons out of 10. Is that what you call "a good team" or just 1 good team? Out the 2 GOOD years and that good team was.......25 and 64!!!!
